But I do like this departure from the novel, that the other 'ediths' and the original 'edith' aren't just 1-bit characters whose death is mentioned and forgotten. They get their own revenge on rize and/or move on to another happier future. Rize doesn't get off scot-free like the novel for the murders she knowingly commits. The part before this with edith's torture and capture could've been executed better if it were a bit more faithful to the novel though, they tried to tone that down and ramp up the retribution more.

a head pat feels nice and loving in a manga, but here it feels so patronizing and condescending. Like 'yeah, good job with your little hobbies. you are definitely helping'. I guess I'm reading it this way because I hate the progression of this story. Why? Because the male lead is not shown to have ever cared about fl's passion for helping commoners and maids, or shown to have understood its importance. To him this feels like his wife's little home project she does to keep herself occupied. At least flesh out the character's thought and mental turnaround more, give us a fuller redemption, if you are gonna make the fl accept this horrible ml so quickly.

I finished the entire manga in 1 day! I haven't seen the anime at all, knowing that s2 sucks, i figured i won't put myself through it at all. I just have some thoughts I need to put to page about this:
this was so good! This was a tightly written story. Reading it all in one go, its obvious the writer had a cohesive vision they stuck to for each chapter. The fight at the capital could've been a bit longer, but the story doesn't rush or drag at any point. Especially since author burnout has given us so many terrible, rushed or straight up nonsensical endings (bleach, mha, jjk to name a few). There is a bit of deus ex machina going on, coz an off-screen character, smee, is to thank for their freedom. They got incredibly lucky in obtaining the pen, so all 3 MCs had the info needed before they ever left. Also, the completely off-screen prison break meant showing a lot less of the struggles that actually happened, and would've given norman a lot more depth so reader's would have sympathy for him, and would want him to be saved in the last arc.
I'm not a fan of unnecessary heartache unless it makes sense for the story, so yuugo and lucas makes sense. But the mcs managing to save most of the kids with their smarts also makes sense. Also isabella is a decent example of redemption done right. When the kids managed to show her her another way, she did start doing what she could within her means to gain freedom.
I usually am not a fan of white knight, angelic MCs that refuse to kill, must always do what's right no matter what the cost, but Emma does it well. She will kill, but she will hesitate. And when she suggests doing the right thing, it will be because she has at least a viable alternate worth pursuing. Her bid to save peter ratri irked me though, and her 14-yr old's talk no jutsu convincing ancient demons does require some suspension of belief. But she is a fantastic MC. She was on board with killing all the upper brass the kept the farms going, so she supported Norman, but was against the mass killings which she had a way of preventing.
The end was so bittersweet, coz the emma that wanted to be free and smile no longer exists. But she is there, she is smiling, and loving her family all the same. That is fantastic. Overall 9.8/10

what seasoned war general would just wander off in the middle of a battle when she knows there are dark magicians creating summoning circles around? Man, authors would do anything nonsensical to make FLs damsels in distress and have MLs save them. WHAT EXPERIENCED LEADER WOULD START THINKING OF FEELINGS AND CONTRACTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EFFING BATTLE? Are we to assume that Ashya, the one who led the dwindling troops to victory, where the rest of her family perished, would make the asinine decision to start playing coy and then just start running around like a headless chicken in the middle of the battle?? The FL was so strong, smart and awesome until this point. Istg my eyes rolled so hard at this they're still spinning.

Agreed! The same thing happened to the character Sahara from Crows Like Things That Sparkle. She was truly a badazz, but still somehow needed her 'Prince' who wasn't as good as a fighter as her to ultimately save her. I do dislike when they start to weaken the FL so the ML can save the day, but I was also raised in a female dominant family and had to teach myself to understand other perspectives (especially when it comes to cultural backgrounds) Besides, both are still really good stories imo.
all these people with no sympathy for anita. She was used and abused and discarded, and her entire family killed, all with her own power. She was a hurt person out to get back what she gave to the scum who betrayed her, and vilified her entire people. I don't blame her at all, coz if she was the FL then all readers would be cheering for her. She is deserving of sympathy, apology and acknowledgement from the descendants of the man who wronged her, and for the FL to now set history straight. How was she supposed to achieve all this without the use of her powers?
I do think the ex-fiance duke guy who is in love with anita is much worse than anita. He is supposed to be loyal to the kingdom and to his family, and he has no problems imprisoning his family, committing treason and killing many for anita's goals. His betrayal is much more insidious than anita's attacks which were at least provoked.
I do wish for a peaceful resolution for anita, and for the emperor and the ex-fiance to suffer. They were 2 people who should not have done all the cruel things they put the FL through
