Yeah basically he’s just being an asshole and messing with her. Then again if I were to play devils advocate it might also be that if it becomes openly realized by his mom she’s a penguin she could get kicked out (unlikely) or more likely that would get back to the dad and she would leave.

Justified violence is essentially deserved punishment, and in many cases, it’s acceptable. Saying otherwise would be like arguing that a criminal who kills someone shouldn’t face severe consequences because justified violence isn’t okay which doesn’t quite hold up. However, just because violence can be justified doesn’t mean every act of it is right. For example, if someone broke your arm, responding by severely harming them wouldn’t be justifiable. It’s a complex issue, but in the specific context we’re discussing, the ml’s actions were reasonable and proportional.
