Childhood friend syndrome. The way I see it the childhood friend had a ton of time. If someone new can come along and snatch them up in half the time it just shows it was never going to happen. These childhood friend characters always wait until someone new shows up. And thats why they usually lose. He coulda been dating her now. Yeah yeah he was scared etc etc but thats why he will lose.
