Also i totally get why your confused but to me (when the story began) she died but she'd been transported back in another time she clearly wasn't familiar with and (in her new world) the priest and the vampire have no clue if she is alive or not but she is alive speaking and breathing so he's experimenting that if what ever she is can she turn to a vampire like him and live forever but (just by seeing the sneak peak in the next chapter) his "EXPERIMENT" didn't work.
