I wanted to think that way but Sensei treasures all of her characters, good or bad. The backstory in this chapter is not complete, we still don't know who Hirata is before he was in the Yakuza. If Sensei explores more about Hirata, she can make him more pitiable. Of course, I am in no way saying his sins are ever forgivable. He fucking killed someone by his own hands but at least his actions and personality would have a reason not just simply a psychopath, can't say he's a sociopath since we just found out he doesn't have a conscience.
When Ace died he made Luffy understand that he was not that strong and he made Sabo remember him and Luffy so i think that just was asome! ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ (i'm still crying about it (╥﹏╥)
Ace dead was good for the plot and for Luffy's character development. I was upset about it but I wouldn't change it. I actually feel more sorry for his comrades who lost a father, a brother and so much more trying to save him.
Man, Hirata has no redeeming part of him.
