God I was so skeptical coming into this thinking it'd be a stereotypical medieval ml regrets story but this is so much more. The writing is pretty good; the characters, the world building, and the complex relationships— the writer perfectly communicates what emotions they want the readers to feel.
I think an amazing moment in the story is when I realized Annette was an unreliable narrator. Her realizing that she was a bad person, and her growing from that felt pretty good. The pity and frustration you feel for Heiner's actions and logic stemming from his trauma, I actually thought he was a piece of trash but he's really growing onto me. The theme of atonement is right up in our faces.
