lowkey it sucks to see artists being put on short deadlines and having to take so many shortcuts. no hate to im ae-ju, this obviously is not their regular style and it seems to be that theyr forced into a time crunch by their publisher. each of these panels just looks like a traced clip studio model and has none of their original artistic charm. i feel like a lot of our favorite artists and authors are going to be completely burnt out after one or two hit stories because the companies they create manhwa for just want as much content being pushed out as fast as possible no matter how boring and cookie cutter it is. anyone else notice how basically all of the really popular BL right now are more or less the same story?
completely agree, and i fear how AI will factor into this. i can only imagine that artists will feel increasingly pressured to use it as a shortcut to keep up. tangentially, i work in marketing and it feels like i have to rely on AI in certain circumstances now to keep up with the pace of work. avoiding it due to moral opposition isn't a choice if I want to get everything done that I've been assigned.
if/when AI use in manhwa increases, will creators be able to use it tastefully, or will it decrease the quality of art and writing? i could easily see it worsening the industry as a whole—increasing productivity expectations and forcing manhwa creators to cut more corners by using AI
sometimes i feel like these authors are using AI for plots and dialogue. like it’s just too perfect for the genre. but then again these stories are becoming more and more formulaic that you might not even need any AI, just an x + y = z and fill in the blanks. im sure if you asked something like chatgpt to write a BL manhwa plot, it would say “broke college student is left with millions in debt after his deadbeat dad runs away/dies and leaves his name on the loan. but then the loan shark appears and tells broke college student that he can pay… with his body????????!!!!!!!!!!!” and just switch out a few components for variety. i think a lot of these authors genuinely do have amazing skills and are probably bursting with creativity and good ideas for a BL, but the publishers refuse to take risks. they just want to put out what they already know will be successful.

let me break it down-the story follows yukio but breaks off for a bit so ill break it down into two parts:
Part 1: basically, yukio is son of very famous tattoo artist named ryuuji that was famous in the yakuza world. not only because he was raised as an apprentice but was the son of a famous yakuza leader. the story follows yukio three years into his life as an orphan with his little half brother jun. Yukio runs into hyoudo (who had been looking for yukio) who was one of ryuujis close friends and decides to keep watching him from afar. eventually some events lead to yukio and hyoudo becoming closer after yukio realizes hyoudo is connected to him through his father. and thats as far as his story goes.
Part 2: this is where we break off into the story about Reiji(AKA guy with scar on eye and fake eye) and Hisoko(sister in coma) (mainly reiji) Reiji and hisoko where apart of an orphanage before being adopted by a bigshot yakuza, who was then killed by another big shot yakuza. After their father whom they loved dearly, died. the yakuza that killed their father (domoto) then took both hisoka and reiji into his family. where reiji falls in love with the son of domoto: Masatsugu (Hyoudos Boss). We take a look into Reijis life who is also connected to Ryuuji (Yukios dad) Because Ryuuji is reijis half-brother. So thats how Yukio is connected to Reiji and how Reiji is connected to Ryuuji. anyways, so he comes back after faking his death to shut each and every yakuza organization down with Masatsugu helping him. They want to do this because he lost his dad, his brother, and his sister all to the yakuza. Now the way his sister went into a coma is because she tried to commit suicide. She tried to kill herself because she was forced and also forced herself to sleep with her father killer, also known as Domoto. Sleeping with him over the course of her entire life which led to her getting pregnant by him. which made her go insane.

Yukio is connected to Jun(younger brother), Ryuuji(dad), Tsubaki(mom), Hyoudo (main love interest also dads best friend), and Reiji (paternal uncle).
everyone else you see in the story not named here is not apart of the main plot. their just obstacles or supporting roles so i tried to sum it down as possible. Hope this helps!!
