People talking about relating and not relating to characters when you can literally see both their perspectives constantly and how its counteractive in each scene...Brett rather cut something off because- as you see in the scene with the goose, he was actually trying to make Hayden happy. He just doesn't know the correct way to do it besides In the ways he HAS (read: sex and dates) and he ended up copying what he did with his brother. Which is what that scene is referring to. " My brother like birds, so surely he'd be happy if I gave him a bird I hunted" right subject, wrong manner. He thinks its impossible for Hayden to actually, ACTUALLY. like him. While Hayden truly wants to have a relationship with him. Why is this so hard for Brett to understand? He's in a family where he was meant to be put in a top place, he's long since struggled in what people actually want and he's trying so so hard to protect them. So when Hayden shakes him out of this and how he would prefer Brett ACTUALLY told him instead of acting rationally, and letting himself actually confine in Hayden...he didn't. It's like he was back as a child. The story is actually VERY CLEAR WITH THIS VIEWPOINT . I actually love this story because it feels really accurate in the Characters and how they interact.... but kicks rock
I dont think you understand how impactful it is that you can see the mother so thankful of Abel that he didn't rat the baby out, because its truly innocent. That the mother paid him back in full. She doesn't care that she's gonna die, she understands the sins her family has fallen for, but a baby? A baby is innocent of that.
