New reader here and tbh I feel so bad abt the empress:( She was probably 14-15 when she got pregnant. ( She was 19 when the emperor forced her to stay in the kingdom, so the ML was probably around 4-5 years old by then. ) Her reasons are valid but it's not justifiable. Imagine how hard it was for a 14 OR 15 YEARS OLD to take care of the child who LITERALLY was forced upon her. (Probably had consent but I don't think she TRULY wanted to have him back then.)
