It's the kind of manga you have to turn your brain off to read then it becomes sweet and cute

In many cultures around the world the idea of incest is only for immediate families.
Distant family members eloping isn't some taboo at all.

Well I mean yeah, but you tend to look at the content you consume through the filter of your culture, it's as if I told you "french royal families used to marry in the family to preserve the bloodline so incest is okay" you'd think something like "yeah okay so what's that got to do with me?" and you'd be right.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's wrong to enjoy reading manga that contain incest (either because you like incest in fiction or because incest is something you can forget about in the said manga so it doesn't bother you) , I'm just saying that "there are cultures where it's okay" is not a valid argument to justify anything.

That's just what I think tho, and if I sound rude I'm very sorry, English isn't my first language, I don't mean to attack anyone on their tastes or beliefs.

I really would like to understand this comment. "Is not a valid argument to justify anything" Justify... What? There's nothing to be justified. It's not a crime being committed LMAO

no one said that incest is okay? the entire reason why incest is because of the power dynamic and control that come with it that changes the morality of it eg: Dad/daughter or Mom/son or siblings of different age. There is manipulation and other things that come with it not good is not because people just share blood relation and that can cause genetic mutations, that is a small chance and even people not even related can have genes that cause genetic mutations and disruption.

and the whole view of 'anyone even closely related would make it incest' things is a very western and European idea. there are many cultural practices that have been stopped because colonizers thought it to be impure by saying that the statement regarding different cultures seeing distant family members as 'A okay for eloping' is not valid argument is like saying only the western/European view on cultural norms is valid.

like the whole "No one wants to eat spoilt milk." thing that many people who disapprove of cultural practices of different countries use. this statement is very rigid and doesn't take into account how spoilt milk is used in many traditional cuisines.

This is not coming from someone who just read a twitter thread and is going on a tangent but someone who studies cultures and societies as well as someone whose's cultural norms are worlds apart form the western ideal.

culture is a very important factor when consuming foreign media. if you judge it through your own cultural norms, you will never get the nuances of how certain factors could effect the story.

no one is trying to justify the incest that is clearly not healthy but rather help expand the knowledge on how other cultures approach the term 'incest' Σ( ￣□￣||)

All of the things you said are true but this isn’t the right comment for you to reply since no one’s justifying anything here, we are also bothered on the incest too but we have no choice but to respect other people’s culture, if it’s wrong, atleast we knew that it’s wrong. There will be (or there’s already) people who will try to change this culture so don’t worry, it’ll change soon I believe.
