I don't really have any empathy for anyone but Hwaryun in this story. Sahara is batshit weird. Suu is just as bad as everyone else. Let's be real: no one in this story is squeaky clean; they're all fucked up. I think their behaviors can be justified, though. Yeah, I get that Suu just wants freedom and blah blah, but he has to be a complete cunt to get it. Aight, cool. Sahara is just... weird. No thank you. I only empathize with humans. Hwaryun. I analyzed this dude like crazy and I actually think he has the most interesting character in this story, compared to characters like Suu and Sahara. I did a whole analysis on another post if anyone is interested in reading it. Idk. Honestly, regardless of what I think, fuck everyone lol. They're all chimps.
I think the author makes it real clear, though, in the most recent events of this chapter: Sahara is a fucking FREAK that is not to be trusted. I repeat: do not let that dude fool you lol. He doesn't understand humanity. Interacting with him is the equivalent of trying to reason with a clinically diagnosed psychopath. There's just none of that here. I'm sorry, guys lol. On a side note, I think Team Hwaryun is going to be the real safe bet. What I mean by this is that the story seems like it will most likely shift in favor of Hwaryun's battle for the throne. At least, this is how most stories (with similar tropes) should progress in the most logical, natural way possible. So, if you're going to pick a side and make bets like you do on NFL Sundays, then you're most likely going to take home your lotto by supporting Team Hwaryun. Sahara and Suu seem like they're going to join Team Hwaryun anyway, unless the author actually hates herself.
It's hard to determine Suu's and Sahara's fate in the specifics because those two are just on some LSD/meth bullshit. If you can learn anything from this story, let Suu and Sahara be a reminder of why you should not take illicit drugs or psychedelic shrooms.
TLDR; Everyone's mentality is fucked and I'm living for it. I anticipate a major battle coming up soon with Hwaryun being victorious. Idk wtf is going to happen to Suu and Sahara, other than the fact that they will most likely join Team Hwaryun again because this is how most stories progress naturally. In fact, Sahara has always been on Team Hwaryun because they're practically intertwined in terms of existence and emotional resonance. Lul. Fuck everyone, though. Seriously.

I mean
Sahara isn't human, it makes complete sense for him not to understand and act like humans, he has his own beliefs and acts on them instead of acting like any other human, he knows he's superior, he was taught to be superior and to see humans as insects, he believes it to be like that and in his situation, he's kinda right, he is superior and humans really are nothing but insects compared to him
Suu on other hand, I get why you'd dislike him for his actions, but tbh he is really realistic, he's selfish, and has his own goals to achive and he's doing whatever it takes, he's very realistic which is why I really like his character, he's not trying to be a goody two shoes or a scheming villain, he's not all black and white.
Like you said every character's mentality is "fucked up", which seems pretty legit
One of the reasons I like this story is because of how realistic it is and that makes it unique compared to other similar cliche stories with saint leads trying to make everyone happy

I don't particularly dislike any character actually. I just don't have any interest in most of them, other than Hwaryun lol. They all gotta do what they gotta do to survive and progress, which is the whole point of the story so I understand them to a certain extent. In particular, though, I don't quite trust Sahara because he's kind of like the this weird odd variable that the author can tweak to any degree... if that makes sense. I get Suu and I have empathy for the dude, but he doesn't catch my eye, but it's totally fine if you enjoy him more. The only character I have an extreme distaste for is the Noble Consort because she's just some bored bitch trying to ruin someone's day, as if she doesn't have a kid to take care of. BUT, I do enjoy this story a lot as well for similar reasons you mentioned. It's truly unique and gets me excited whenever I read a new chapter ヾ(☆▽☆)
Then I shall die as well
I’ll die with you -.-
