Part 1 of season 2 is being released currently. There will be two parts with a hiatus in between. Then, season 3 will be the final season which is about redemption and being able to love each other. So, we are not yet halfway through.

Let it marinate for another year or so and maybe you'll be halfway through

I wish I didn't but I think I disagree, lau has always blamed him for his restricted freedom, and xin tried to severe ties by hooking him up with a band going for a tour and didn't see him for five years, xin did it for his sake. I think after seeing his dead brother, he kinda accepted his fate and didn't want to drag lau down with him. BUT maybe asking help with figuring out what his tatoo is was his last act of hope, still lau made it very fucking obvious that he hates him (freaking tsundere), and I guess xin kinda gave up now, of course a person in his situation would keep hoping for a savior deep down, but lau was that much of a let down ( yeah I admit this was very biased against lau, he kinda got on my nerves, I accept all allegations).

You cooked bro. I think we are meant to feel annoyed at Lau but he has also been in through a lot. I think Xin is in a way similar to his brother he wants to protect Lau in his own way (not letting him see Miu and Tan dead) but ended up hurting him (imo if someone close to me died I'd want to be there when they die too). But Xin did protect Lau from perhaps the shooters/people from head family so we can't really blame anyone. Both of them reacted like humans, which is the pinnacle of characterisation. I love this story so much, they're literally people who are stumbling through life making mistakes along the way. We as readers get annoyed at the stupid shit they do but we can't really get mad when we do the same stupid shit irl lmao

Okay I agree with most of what you said but I disagree with the he got Lau as a last act of hope theory. Because if that was the case Xin would at least TRY to help Lau solve the mystery... but he didn't do any of that shit. Lau's realization towards the end of season 1 is that Xin has told him jack shit and fuck all about what's actually going on between the collateral lines and head family. Basically that he knows more than he's letting on. IMO Xin has some sort of plan to take down the head family and Lau is somehow a part of it. I think Xin has way more agency than the story is letting on right now.

About that I will admit it's not a 100%, it's complicated, notice how they are all afraid of talking about it openly, like the dude (yep forgot the name) paired with alex, he had laun running around trying to figure everything out instead of telling him, and the chick villain knew from the start that laun was investigating but did nothing, as if he was a puppet under control. And xin told him to not tell them at first but laun still did, I think he's in a position where he can't/won't tell him directly (maybe to protect laun). After all laun doesn't have any real power against a whole household. And more importantly he kept antagonizing and even told xin he hates him again after 5 years, I think this dejected xin from seeking help even more.

And this whole thing made me cook up a new theory, unlikely but it would be cool in my opinion. Imagine the girl making a bet with xin, if laun will figure it put and help him, she won't stop him but xin can't tell him anything

OMFG sorry for the late reply. Idk how this escaped me for so long. Anyways yes, I agree. Xin, Lian, and everyone else involved have clearly been hiding what they're doing from everyone including Lau. They must be trying to hide their true intentions from the head family for some reason. But if that's the case and they're doing this to go against the head family I don't understand why the head family would let Wei go into the annex at night. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the head family wanted Lian to do the tattoo on Xin for some reason, but Lian is really doing it to help Xin, which is why they're being so secretive. I think that the way everyone has been leading Lau on is somehow a part of their plan. Lian and Chen deliberately try to get Lau closer to the answers. Even Xin to a certain extent. Idk if I'm high but I feel like when Xin was telling Lau to not tell Lian, he must've known Lau would've done it anyways. Xin isn't stupid, I think he knows Lau well enough atp to know he would tell Lian. I feel like it was reverse psychology kinda? Like Xin knew if he told Lau not to tell Lian, he would tell Lian lmao. And honestly I think that was just a roundabout way of getting Lau to find out about the relationship between the collateral lines through Lian. I don't really get what Lau could do to help honestly. Complete guess but maybe its something to do with his dad? I really don't know atp tbh there's still so many mysteries left to solve. So excited for s3!
