Second, it’ll reaffirm that JJK was hideously awful and bring up all those painful memories so they’re out in the open, which could make Dan drink to forget again. Third, it would frame the return with JJK as a plea for Dan to return to his former position. Despite what JJK says—it would then be obvious that JJK doesn’t want to let Dan go and would pose an opportunity for JJK to change his mind or find a new way to shackle Dan.
Saying sorry at this point would do more harm than good for Dan. Plus I don’t think it could get past JJK’s lips. It’s too much for a simple sorry. I’m surprised people thought this story was mid because it turned out completely different from how it started and ended beautifully to me. The two characters had a lot more depth to them than I originally thought and I felt that the story was incredibly mature. There was no over exaggerated argument or drama because the two of them truly understood each other’s loneliness and pain. There’s this feeling of calmness and maturity when dealing with the two main characters and I loved it.
Ironically, their relationship was only possible because of the ‘wrong’ love they had with their exes. It might be a little uncomfortable for some people since their relationship is sort of like a rebound, but I think the point is they made something new out of that terrible birthday night that ended up saving them in the end. This really deserves a higher rating.
Read this when I was still just a high schooler. Almost a decade later and this is still such a great read. The characters are great, realistic, and genuine. Especially props to the author for writing Chizu because she really does come off as the child that is forced to be more mature than others—yet she still retains her childlike nature.
Also my opinion of Kana still hasn’t changed over the years, only grew stronger too because damn is she such a bad mother. Red flags everywhere.
