Not really, it has all the problematic yaoi tropes. Rich "seme" gets jealous that his submissive love interest talks to other people, and sexually assaults him, then rapes them. The severity of these acts is diminished. MD also sexually assaults Chanwoo. You see Jiwon stalking DG, emotionally abusing him too, but all this is "justified" because Jiwon had a childhood where he was second-best to his brother, apparently. Sorry, but are readers going to just forget that this manga portrayed sexual crimes and it was handled so poorly in the plot?
Yes, because in our minds we are capable of separating erotic fantasy from real life. That this is a work of fiction with 2D characters all created from the same mind (of the creator) and not real people who have no idea what the other is feeling or thinking. So in this 2D word we see 2 people leave behind their old wounded selves and move forward while getting better themselves. Also in yaoi-fantasy possessiveness translates to interest and love, while in real life to jerkiness and stupidity. So we (readers), who can actually "speak" yaoi and know how to translate what we read and their distinction from real life, really like it. And understand it. If your age or background cannot help you separate the 2 you should not be here. This is a story of 2 imperfect people finding their soulmate and became nicer, stronger and gentle. They started as sex friends (well actually not even that) and reach a level of bliss. They helped each other along the way. We are happy for their final stage and we have the brain capacity to understand that " punishing - sex" or "over jealousy" are just easy yaoi cliches to portrait interest, only in yaoi-land.
Sorry, but a lot has been said on this website lately of justifying poor storytelling, normalisation of abuse "because it's fiction". Fiction is fantasty, but just as some people are reacting to fictional characters will uttermost glee, other people don't find certain aspects of the plot enjoyable. Calling a character "imperfect" is a nice way of saying he's an insecure, shallow jealous rapist imo, which yes we have seen was a product of his environment, doesn't mean everyone will agree with a character, or how events have been portrayed in the timeline. The rape scene being used as a segway for a date, was tasteless, but that's just my opinion, you have yours, such is life, so stop trying to shut down communication by policing how people should react to fiction.
Funny, I thought that was something you tried to do when you did not write your own post but tried to change the opinion of someone that liked it under his/her comment. Also let's not put together all kinds of fiction. Things that can be forgiven in comics for example, will not be easily forgiven in books and less in movies. Even in same type different genres have different flexibility. But when we are in Yaoi-manga universe we know how some things differentiate from reality. And even the advancement of the specific genre create a "realistic" subgenre where the yaoi cliches are non existent, the "dark-themed" ones and several others. Just like a post from another yaoi where a spirit had sex with a young man who was molested in the past. I read comments about PTSD and therapy. Very correct reactions in real life. Of course the fact that we were talking about a SPIRIT really didn't seem to be a factor in their reactions. This is a bit like going for a vacation to Egypt while hating the sun and the sand
Also we have to take into consideration the target group of this genre and it's actual purpose, which is an erotic fantasy. Plus the fact that it is of Asian origin. And of course there are many bad ones. Art related or scenario related. But on the other hand why girls like it? Because it speaks of internal love? Because the couple is equally gender-wise? Because sex is not a shameful action for males? Many reasons. And of course not everyone has to like everything.
