Anyways, whether he had decided to keep the baby or not is up to him. If he had decided to, then he's responsible for him. The reasons to have a child because you're lonely is not it. I have a friend once who had told me he wanted kids because he wants to be taken cared of in his old age . Selfish much??? Your child is not an indentured servant. And he's not there to fill a void in your life. You bring a child into the world because you want to give this human being love and care. If you want to have a family to feel fulfilled, because you want to give love to your offspring, to pass on your genes (the selfishness in this is also debatable) and have company, it's not the same as having one because you are lonely. You can get a friend, adopt an orphan, or get a pet as some ppl have pointed out. Also, having kids because your biological clock determines it is not the same as producing one just for your own pleasure and gratification.
My own family has mental health issues. I have fought against my own desire to have kids because of what I have to live with. So don't tell me that it's cuz "he's the only family he has left". That's SUCH a BULLSHIT argument. You have to weigh the pros and cons FOR YOUR CHILD, NOT FOR YOURSELF. That's freaking selfish.
If you want to have a family because you want to feel familial love, it's not the same as just bringing one into the world for the sake of bringing one into the world. Have you ever thought about how the child would feel?!? Having a child means having a LOT of responsibilities. You want to make sure that is what you want before having a child. And in this case, as you have said, the child had been unplanned, so having an abortion or putting up the child for adoption are also other means. It's not rape in the sense of human rape. So whether he keeps it is his choice. But once he makes his choice, he has to live by it. True, he didn't actually run from Ian but then why was he so fearful?!? True, he didn't change his name, but he ended up using his Korean name (which probably makes the MOST sense since he lives (and was born and raised) in Korea) rather than his English name that DoYoon knows him as. But DoYoon remembers his name from way back when they were friends, or if not, then at least now knows because of the baby's illness. So he didn't fully run away, but he was scared enough to stay away and didn't get proper treatment or care for his child.
