The hunter association started using him for selfish reason and threatened him that they'll do something to her if he didn't obey. He thought if he maintained some distance the association would leave her alone but he didn't want to be so cold to her and then she died trying to save him. He regrets his actions and wished he treated her better.. so here in this world where he has more power he's trying to win her back. In south Korea he was powerless against that fake saint and the association.
