Does it... well, good for you if it's making you. But I personally find the lack of subtlety cheap, and no, doesn't make me "think twice" at all. In fact, I don't actually need to think. There's nothing surprising here, not in the "characterization" (which I have to say... bland), not in the dialogue/narration, not in the plot, because the elements in this manga have been overplayed in quite a lot of "angsty" manga before.

Also if you say this is overplayed then every story is overplayed. Because except for thirteen stories every trope has been used over and over again. Gabdab.

True, I read those kinds of works and I find some entertaining enough. But Conro's... once we're given the sad back story, it goes "ok done characterization established" and starts getting inconsistent, like... ??? So they always feel off to me. And in this case, even the narration is weak imo, too
