The scene when Hayden told Brett that he would take him to the gym and the next panel zooms in on Brett's surprised face, almost seems out of character for him. He's usually very observant so the fact that he didn't sense the subtleties of Hayden's feelings is a bit uncharacteristic. When they were at the bar and Hayden mentions Nathan, it's pretty obvious theres a hint of jealousy there so that should have at least told him that there's something there despite Hayden being previously passive and even cold towards him. But I understand that maybe these things has to happen so that Hayden's misunderstanding at the end can have more impact.
