its a fantasy type modern trope where espers have magical abilities but they go insane(usually explained differently in stories) so they need guides to "heal" them (also depends on the stories, sometimes they dont explain it but usually theyre there to either clear an espers mentality, give them stability, or purify their bodies when they overuse their powers) settings are also dependant on the story the author wants to tell. usually it is in a near apocalyptic setting, think dungeon break stories where monsters invade the modern world. very rarely they are also set in fantasy but i cant recall any atm. thats all i can think of for nowww hope this helps ^^

Yeah I understand it her work she can do whatever she wants. But papa wolf and puppy got popular because it was originally a slice of life and wholesome manga. So she built a base for different audience and then decided to change the gener mid way through the story after it got popular.
