I liked the story overall, while it did feel bumpy in some areas it was a nice read. HOWEVER! How can a story have a plot that 50% revolves around not believing stereotypes or prejudices against people still have a stereotype about dark skin = bad, thug, violent? Fucking imagine.
As a brown person, I immediately noticed that too. And that one person's hair at the outing? "Harlem?" Not even trying pretend not to be racist.
Many people were talking about how "she's just a child" and stuff like that before, basically dismising what Mielle did to the FL. I'm glad that more people realize that there is a difference between a child who doesn't want to lose their family vs. a child like Mielle.
Especially if their version of "don't want to lose their family" is "murder those who enter said family".
Also. Can we please talk about how Mielle is a child NOW. She wasn't in the future. She was an adult who planned a murder very elaborately. SHE is the villain, she's a bloody sociopath
