sleepyhead created a topic of Solo Leveling

Absolutely loved first season and I was one of the OGs for this manhwa. I was there when there were only ~20 chapters and was ongoing, so this manhwa has a special place in my heart.

I can list a lot of good things about this manhwa: battles, art style, perfectly placed comedy, magic and abilities, Sung Jinwo himself, and etc.

But second season was kind of disappointing…

I didn’t like romance, because it felt half-assed and put there just to be there. Especially when the FL had such a great potential as a character and a hunter/fighter, but was just reduced to a ‘powerful woman that is really in love with MC’ and it became her whole personality. Give her more screen time and character development or just not include romance at all.

Then when Sung Jinwo got rid of the system and fused with the OG monarch, it ruined the whole point of Solo Leveling. Before, he had to work through blood, sweat and tears to become stronger. That’s why the character wasn’t cringe or annoying like some other OP characters in similar manhwas. But then he fuses with the OG Shadow Monarch and everything goes out of the window. Now he becomes super OP and HUNDRED times stronger (not just a few levels like he usually does it after overcoming and obstacle), which begs the question: what the fuck was it all for. It just showed that all of Sung Jinwo effort to become strong was just useless in the end, because it took him a few minutes to just become a god basically.

And, finally, the ending was just ass. Going back in time is the same as ‘and then I woke up’ ending. Everything a reader went through emotionally and getting attached to other characters just went straight to a trash bin. All the character development got wiped. Then, after all that sacrifice from him, Sung Jinwo comes back and decides to STAY, knowing that it will have negative effects on Earth and everyone else.

DIDN’T YOU SACRIFICE EVERYTHING TO PROTECT EARTH??? YOUR FAMILY??? WHAT??? LITERALLY WHAT WAS THE POINT???

Readers were literally getting slapped left and right in the last chapters.

Manhwa is still amazing, but I’m sad that second season kinda fumbled.

sleepyhead created a topic of Max Mojave's Case

I had to take a lot of breaks reading this, because the second half was so stressful and sometimes I just couldn’t stomach the villains.

Villains in this one are just vile. It’s been a while since I’ve been this disgusted and praying for these bitches to have worst possible end. Sad that most of them just died without much suffering and the doctor is still walking freely.

The main couple was amazing and I loved them. Wish they had more chapters where they just happy and all domestic with each other (especially after all the shit they’ve been through), so I hope for extras. I want to see Max and Chris happy :(

I also loved the police husbands with all my heart. I was screaming when Nathan got stabbed and almost died. I definitely gained a few white hairs after that one. I want more of their story and them be together/in touch with the main couple (they literally treated Chris as their son please )

I feel bad for MC, because he is genuinely such a sweet and kind guy. But Kotani is just an asshole 90% of the time for no reason. I think author is trying to make them banter, but it’s just painful to read because it’s not a banter if MC always feels like shit or hurt because of Kotani’s words. Author is trying to keep the ‘enemies to lovers’ essence, but it just doesn’t work here.

Furthermore, whenever Kotani hurts MC - they just fuck. No talking it out or sharing their feelings. Dude just fucks MC and doesn’t care if he is mad or not. Really romantic.

They are suppose to fated mates, but their outlook of life and personalities are just not compatible. Realistically, this couple just doesn’t work. Like the desire for marriage and kids are a pretty big deal when people start dating. If your partner wants kids and marriage, but you don’t - the relationship won’t work. And it’s just one of the things that don’t match for both of them.

On top of that, Kotani treats MC like a fuck buddy rather than a long term partner, which pisses me off. He is just taking MC’s love for granted, and I can’t wait for him to get his head straight later when second male lead (?) appears.

I really hope Kotani gets his shit together, because he does not deserve MC whatsoever.

I LOVED this manhwa so much. Both MCs are so cute and it was such a delight to read their interactions. It’s so refreshing to see a nice and green flag ML that is not an asshole or batshit crazy (it’s a trend with manhwas lately). I literally cannot remember the last time I read a manhwa with such a green flag couple that actually resolves their problems quickly by talking to each other and not just fucking to mend it.

I absolutely adored their expressions and their “conflicts”. The only downside is that it was too short. Just a liiiiiiitle bit longer and it would’ve been amazing. However, it still has a complete story and doesn’t deserve such a low rating!!!!

The special episodes, however… were disappointing. I was so hyped to read more about my babies, but was met with a typical manhwa toxic story that I literally mentioned above. It went from green forest to sirens blaring everywhere. The side couple just came out of nowhere and the doctor literally deserves better. And by the way the specials ended, he will for sure dump that fucker.

But even though the specials were bad, the manhwa still doesn’t deserve such a low rating, when ‘JINX’ AND FUCKINH ‘KISS ME, LIAR’ HAVE HIGHER RATING!!! RAAAAAAAHHHHH

It broke my heart to see him being anxious, always apologising and trying to talk to Chaehoo when he was just shutting him down. He is too lenient with him that the relationship turned really toxic.

Chaehoo gets to enjoy all sorts of hobbies in America and socialise, but Ilhoo can’t even go to have dinner with other interns without Chaehoo throwing a tantrum. Then he (Chaehoo) allows his professor to be all flirty and clingy, but Ilhoo can’t even get to explain himself when being accused of cheating TWICE in one day. Ilhoo needs to sacrifice his sleep and social life just to have a call with Chaehoo, while that bastard does whatever he wants and DARES to say that Ilhoo is not putting enough effort into their relationship.

I agree with the comments that say Ilhoo should’ve dumped Chaehoo who CHOSE to go to America without discussing things with Ilhoo first and acting like a total bastard. That should’ve put some loose screws back into their place and get his shit together.

It is actually breaks my heart how mature Ilhoo is, trying to calm down, apologising and trying to talk things through, but Chaehoo, on other hand, is just selfish, aggressive, manipulative and controlling.

The first season was good (in my opinion). Their dynamic and relationship progression was so good that I was shocked that it had such low rating. I absolutely loved how Inhoo kept his distance, reality-checking Chaehoo every time and standing his ground (so it’s heartbreaking to see him let Chaehoo just do whatever he wants later). But second season ruined it.

And another thing. We had a glimpse of someone in Ilhoo’s dream (in first season when he was sleeping in the library and someone left him a canned drink with a number) and boxes everywhere. By his reaction, it was some kind of traumatic memory and I assumed it had something to do with his mom/ex gf, resulting it him always trying to cover himself/protect himself with clothes and being antisocial. But it was never explained or explored. It was just a random thing that happened, but never explained and just forgotten. However, I could be wrong and I’m open to be corrected.

I was also disappointed that the other two friends just disappeared in the second season, appearing only in the end of extras. Ilhoo kept talking about being lonely, but their (not Chaehoo’s) company actually made him feel good and want to spend more time with them. So it was really sad to see that they just disappeared and Chaehoo became his sole focus and friend, which is really toxic and concerning. And it doesn’t help that Chaehoo is really controlling and doesn’t like when Ilhoo hangs out with anyone else.

sleepyhead created a topic of Unscented Trajectory

I already know that it’s going to be a headache to read and that ML is a big asshole. But does it have good regret or chasing arc after all the shit he did? Does MC, at some point, get fed up and leaves?

If it doesn’t have satisfying suffering of ML and chasing after all the bullshit he pulled, I can’t read it or I will die from frustration T_T

Idk if I’m the only one who finds that a problem, but…

I like this manga and understand that it’s not serious. It has a set plot and rules of the world, but it’s basically just a compilation of stories and tropes (which is entertaining). However, it is really upsetting how villains don’t get any retribution.

Some background characters get their arms cut-off and beat up to the inch of their life, but big villains get nothing.

In the beginning, Nao was a villain and annoying one at that (still is, in my opinion). He literally tried to sell MC off and forcefully marry Nagi. Even Nagi said that he would never forgive him for hurting his mate/servant, but they are still on good terms???? I was really uncomfortable when both of them were on the screen together. I understand that they both were born and lived as one, but BRUH. Give SOME sort of punishment, at least?

And the second big villain is that child-looking one that stole Nao’s mate/servant. For the crime he committed and for f*cking annoying he was, he got such a light punishment. Almost non-existent. I was literally fuming from how annoying that guy was acting and it was really unsatisfying to see him get off scot-free.

Again, I understand WHY they couldn’t give him a really harsh punishment, but why write such an untouchable villain character in the first place? T_T

I also don’t like how they made that tragic situation so light with the misplaced comedy moments. It’s the same if when revealing Kagetora’s or that Onmyoji guy’s backstory, author started placing jokes and comedy moments, making their tragedy too light. But that’s my personal opinion.

sleepyhead created a topic of Waterside Night

MC was already broken, but ML kept pushing him even further down the hole until MC just completely breaks just to then swoop in and “save” him.

Like, boy. YOU made MC this miserable. And because MC is so broken, ML’s redemption was really quick. Just basic support (which MC was in DIRE need for) from him made MC fall for him again so quickly. And it was even more convenient that MC literally had no one to rely on, except for ML. Really convenient for the author and plot, isn’t it?

I’m not blaming MC. I actually love and adore him. I understand all of his actions. On the other hand, I hate ML and ML’s dick riders that excuse his actions and say “but he changed!”. That doesn’t erase the traumatic shit he has done to MC?! Why is that even an argument?! Since when rape, forced prostitution and threat of pimping is something that could be forgotten just because ML apologised? There are so many manhwas with trash MLs like him (exactly the same btw), but they all have a low rating. So why is this one so highly rated?

His redemption was not satisfying at all, because half of it was him literally cleaning up after his own mistakes (his brother almost being taken away, MC suffering from miscarriage, etc). The other half is him doing the bare minimum for MC. And because both of them are not in an equal relationship (MC is broke and has nothing, while ML has status, money, connections and etc), any small deed is a huge deal for MC. How tf is that satisfying? ML is basically having the redemption set to easy mode. It would have been much more satisfying if MC was able to stand on his own two feet, have his own money and not rely on anyone, then have ML chase after MC for 50+ chapters.

But then, again, how tf do you forgive someone who destroyed your life, profited from it, raped you and also forcefully impregnated you? When that shit happened in other manhwas (popular examples: “Abandoned Empress”, “Kiss me, Liar”, etc), people were ENRAGED that MC forgave the ML and got back together. So why is this manhwa so different?

Furthermore, calling ML’s character development ‘one of the best’ makes me smash my head against the wall. It is insulting to other manhwa authors that actually write a good story and character development.

If you forgive a rapist and genuine piece of shit of a human just because they regret what they did and doing bare minimum - you need a therapist ASAP. That is not normal.

I’m not saying that people can’t change or we should hold the past over people. But when the crime is THAT big the redemption should outweigh what he has done. There weren’t enough chapters to show his redemption. That bitch didn’t forgive MC’s debt until it backfired and only quit his thug job at the end. Bitch, you should have STARTED with that!

I’m so angry that this manhwa is so popular and highly rated. The plot is not a masterpiece. Characters (except for MC, his brother and that college student) are not good. Theme and overall message is non-existent.

Nothing wrong with liking this manhwa, btw! Not every manhwa needs to be a perfect literary masterpiece to be able to enjoy it. I can see why people would like it: the art style, sex scenes, redemption arc (that was poorly done and is short, in my opinion) and etc. Even I read manhwas/manhuas with trash MLs to enjoy the regret, angst and chasing (but NEVER excusing MLs’ actions). But calling it masterpiece, excusing ML’s actions and not taking any criticism about it? This manhwa’s fans are just smth…

I wouldn’t be hating on this manhwa this much if it wasn’t for the high rating and the fans being insufferable on social media.

sleepyhead created a topic of Life Senjou no Bokura

I love the idea of this manga, but the execution is really poor.

I LOVE the time skips to show their age, their facial expressions, their love story, their personalities and the route it took with the whole “breaking under the societal pressure” and desperation to meet standards. However, it pissed me off how quick this manga was going and how quick they got back together.

This manga would’ve been so much better if it wasn’t going this quickly and showed more details about Ito’s married life and how unhappy he gradually became as he realised what he did. In manga, his realisation was just out of nowhere and random.

Then when Ito and Nishi meet by chance, they go back to each other too quickly that it just upset me. I hate the whole “I love him so much that I can forgive anything” plot in mangas, because it is just disrespectful to Nishi, who suffered so much, and just harmful thing to show/teach in fiction. Author should’ve spent more time on rebuilding their relationship after such traumatic thing for Nishi.

Their love story had growth in it, but later on that growth just disappeared, so I became so disappointed in the manga. Everyone is saying how realistic it is, but is it really? Because of the quick pace, it feels more like a fairytale and fantasy book where “love always prevails”. And because of this, it just really simplified Nishi’s and Ito’s characters, which are supposed to be complex. It also over-simplified their tragedy and traumatic impact on Nishi.

The love of his life, who he dated and lived with for years, just suddenly throws him away and says that he wants to be “normal”. No matter how strong Nishi could be, there is no way it didn’t leave a scar or resentment. And it is shown that Nishi indeed suffered for years because of what Ito did. It is shown that he still holds resentment in his actions and expressions. But you are telling me that after a flimsy promise he just takes Ito back? You are also telling me that their relationship just went straight to how it was before despite what Ito did? You are telling me Nishi, just out of nowhere, has an absolute faith in the man that abandoned him?

Oh, please. Where is it ‘realistic’?

Love is not a miracle that can cure everything. If it was, the world wouldn’t be such a cruel place and people wouldn’t be suffering so much. This is why the manga quickly became an unrealistic fairytale.

If author actually took their time to write important moments more deeply and in details, I really think this manga would’ve been a masterpiece. I just think that the theme and some moments are too heavy to be in a short manga. It should’ve been longer to do the story (and the theme of it) justice.

But it’s all my opinion and I still think this manga is good, but not a masterpiece as everyone selling it.

sleepyhead created a topic of Heart Stain

I don’t know why many authors are allergic to making characters suffer from their own consequences and resolving the conflict as soon as possible.

I’m not hating on Woohyun, because he was realistically written and his actions were understandable. There were a few annoying moments, but I couldn’t actually hate him, because overall he was a good guy.

But I just don’t get the author. The whole manhwa was building up for the angst moment when the Doha ‘losses’ the bet and have to separate, but then we just got a time skip and everything got resolved with one conversation. If it was that easy, why tf didn’t they talk before Doha leaving? There were so many moments in school where Woohyun could’ve just talked to Doha or just called him a few times. He didn’t have a problem confessing to the teacher, but when the guy you like (and who likes you back) is leaving, because he thinks you like another dude, NOW you decide to play chicken?

I was waiting for the delicious angst and chasing from Woohyun, because he took Doha’s love for granted, but it got resolved too quickly.

sleepyhead created a topic of Continued Love

I’m not going to point out the shitty characters and some of the plot points. But second season is just straight-up ripoff of Mr. Dior with the whole “amnesia that leads to made-up scenarios while searching for the truth when back to normal”.

This manhua WISHES to be anywhere near “Mr. Dior”.

sleepyhead created a topic of Stranger Than Friends

God, this author knows how to write infuriating and pathetic (not in a good way) male leads. I didn’t read side stories, because I’m not interested in side couples, so I only read the main story.

Maybe because I’m not a teenager, but the male lead pissed me off so much I wanted to jump in and just strangle him. He is fucking selfish in the most annoying way and it’s never truly resolved.

He throws tantrum and gets jealous when MC gets close to anyone, but he can woo and befriend anyone he wants. The whole manhwa started because of him and ran on his conditions. Bitch, he had feelings for MC for so long but kept denying himself because of what MC said to him YEARS ago when they were kids, but had no trouble kissing and making moves? Make it make sense.

ML is literally just a big child that throws tantrum and makes it about him when things don’t go his way. When MC finally calls him out on his bullshit, the fucker then makes the situation about HIMSELF. How HE is miserable and hurting when he is the one that made the fucking bed. He literally never thought about how MC is miserable because of his actions and just cared about himself.

The manipulation in that situation goes crazy. He is selfish until the very end and I just hoped he would suffer longer to get his fucking head straight.

Anyways, MC is a pookie and deserved so much better. He deserves someone more emotionally mature that would put him first. And not this fucker. God, I hate this ML so much.

I’m so tired of seeing reincarnation or transmigration genre in manhwas, because it’s just unnecessary and useless. And in this manhwa it’s one of the most useless things.

An example of good reincarnation/transmigration into novels are “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint” and “Trash of the Count’s Family”. At least in those manhwas, the main characters constantly interact with the original plot and execute it perfectly. But many other manhwas just take the concept, put it for some reason and do nothing with it. This manhwa is the same.

Main character, Valeta, was reincarnated into the novel, but she doesn’t remember much from the novel. She never even mentions the plot of the novel or important characters besides the main character (who was introduced and then just disappeared for ~50 chapters and never mentioned lol), main villain (ML) and a few other characters. Furthermore, we get absolutely 0 information on her past life, so sometimes I just kept forgetting she is an ADULT in child’s body. Why even add the reincarnation to this when the plot would’ve been just fine without it? Just to add “villain” to the title? I’m hating this because nowadays every second new manhwa/novel has reincarnation and transmigration genre. Just give me a break.

Another thing that pissed me off is Valeta’s personality, because author kept changing it and changing their mind about it. In the beginning, she was kind, but had to keep distance because of her fear to lose people. But then author just kept going back and forth with it. One moment she is kind and then another she is acting she couldn’t care less if other people suffer and just like a sociopath that doesn’t understand some human emotions (but again wtf is she acting like this? she wasn’t actually a child growing up in these conditions. she was an adult. yes, it’s traumatising, but it wouldn’t completely delete understanding of basic sympathy and empathy).

Example: She saved and looked after (while keeping distance) the og main character from the novel, told Reinhardt not to kill people and cared about people in distress (Eliza, the ‘pets’ her dad kept, Reinhardt, the ‘chimera’ guy, etc). But then, for some reason, she did not give a single fuck when the mansion was destroyed and people, who were nice to her and took care of her, were under the rubble and dying. She had 0 reaction about it and wanted to walk away from it?? Make it make sense. She is saving and helping people who she doesn’t know (Eliza, for example), but then does not give a fuck when people close to her are dying. SHE ALSO COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE KID (OG MC) SHE CARED FOR AND THE CAT??? HELLO?? Absolutely pissed me off.

There are many more inconsistencies with her character, but I don’t want to go and spend more time talking about this.

Plot had a great potential and I don’t mind a morally gray MC, but it was just wasted. Author is inconsistent and throws a lot of unnecessary shit into the plot (like reincarnation that could be removed and nothing would change and many more).

P.S. it’s my opinion and I’m not dissing people who like this manhwa.

The only downside of this manhwa is that it doesn’t have enough chapters T_T

I want to learn more about Gongchan’s past and to see more of his relationship with Youngman. Praying for the side stories to come out faster.

sleepyhead created a topic of 4 Week Lovers

(This manhwa is completed with 125 chapters + one Special if you are reading 18+ mature version / 109 + one Special for 15+ version)

I liked this manhwa (not a 10/10, but still has a place in my heart) because of the good romcom, cute characters and their dynamic. I loved both of the main characters so I didn’t mind some of the cliche tropes, because they were executed in a way that I found endearing and not cringe or annoying.

I wouldn’t mind this manhwa to have another 100+ chapters as long as it doesn’t drag out the drama with MC’s abusive family. But I also didn’t expect it to end so abruptly?

I don’t know why, but somewhere after chapter 100 (I’ve read 18+ version) author just started to rush and cut down on things. It felt like some of the chapters were cut, because one moment characters are talking and then it immediately cuts to another scene without proper transition. It sometimes made me confused and check twice if some panels were missing/not loading. But no. It was just like that.

(Example: moment when MC gets “stabbed”. Scene shows dude with knife, cuts to MC on the floor already bloody, MC gets taken away, only THEN shows ML who is just sitting on the ground shocked and the gangster dude who was hired by MC’s brother just appearing out of nowhere with a wound on his hand. Yes, the panels were in that order and I’m not missing anything. It feels like scenes were missing, but they weren’t.)

On top of that, it felt like the plot took speed pills, because everything got resolved so quickly and it felt anticlimactic. All the sweet revenge was shown as one-two panels that happened on the background, which is just upsetting. Then MC and his brother got only like ~10 chapters together after years of misunderstanding and being apart. And even in those 10 chapters they didn’t spend time one-on-one to talk things out. On top of that, we just get a time skip and rushed summery of some events (which is fine to do for an ending, but considering how fast plot just started to progress out of nowhere, I feel robbed.)

In the end, the manhwa is still pretty good, but I’m disappointed with the rushed ending. This manhwa definitely deserved better.

sleepyhead like topic of Hyanghyeon Text

You know that meme like “anime so good and then author decides to add unnecessary incest trope”? It’s this, but for this manhwa.

It started so good. The supernatural, MC’s personality, the mystery of the drug case, ML - everything started so good. I gobbled that shit so fast like a man starved. But then the plot just… got all over the place.

First, I don’t get why write such a good premise and turn it into just a pure porn. I don’t mind sex in manhwa, but like… if I wanted to read porn - I would have gone and read it. I came here for a good plot, but most of it got shoved under a rug, because most of the time MCs would just fuck and the plot became something that pushes *itself* in the background.

Again, nothing wrong with sex in BL manhwas, but if you set up such a good story - why just make it about sex? But it’s my personal opinion.

Second, we need to address the elephant in the room. What the fuck is up with incest in this manhwa. It was NOT necessary. And not only MCs brother wanted to fuck him, but then turns out their UNCLE was in love with their FATHER (aka uncle’s brother). Like… WHY WAS IT NECESSARY TO ADD TO THE STORY??? It wasn’t even frowned upon in the story??? Literally no one in the manhwa was like “Ayo, that’s really fucking fucked up. Why are you still LIVING with your brother that tried to rape you???”. Also, why is MC so chill about it??? WHY IS ML CHILL ABOUT IT???????

When I found out about their father and uncle my jaw was literally on the floor and I needed a minute to process this whole plot. Again, it wasn’t necessary. And what repulses me is how author makes it… normal?

In the end, nothing wrong with liking the manhwa, but I am side-eyeing people who ignore incest in this/justify it or even worse… find it hot. You CANNOT justify it or argue about it.

I just don’t get it why it has such a high rating and why people call it “underrated” or “masterpiece”. Like girl… Let’s face it. It is porn with lazy plot and a lot of fetishisation of incest. There is nothing genius about it.

And for people who think this is actually masterpiece… Please go read more books, novels and manhwas to broaden your horizons.
