It has to be visual like something that can be played out on a stage. It has to forge a new bond between the characters. It can't be thoughts and feelings that change. There has to be a real event. You can still have safe words even if you can't speak. You can make certain noises like saying "uh oh" 3 times and shaking your head.. the point of a safe word is for when you don't feel stafe and wanna stop, being able to have one when you can't use words is important in BDSM or at least to stay safe.
