..uuuh...that last phrase...that's a nazi parole...just so you know. maybe you don't know. that phrase is written above the "KZ" in Buchenwald, Germany. so, maybe you dont wanna use it anymore? it's not forbidden to say it though...
but just so you know the background of that phrase....also, it doesnt mean that everybody should do what they like (I thought so too at first), it actually means, "you get what you deserver", but in a negative way, like..."if you die, that's what you deserve" for example...

that's interesting I never heard that the sentence "to each their own" is connected to the nazi.. bc it is a widely used idiom and just really means "everyone has a right to their opinions" atleast that's what google and other dictionary websites tells me

do intrigued where you heard that information from /gen

Yeah, I'm also curious where this is coming from... I've heard this phrase used all my life, meaning "everyone has the right to their own opinion," and nowhere on google can I find any info about having any n*zi connections ._.

Where did you get this info??? Just cause the nazi’s chose to take the phrase and slap it onto their own, doesn’t mean it came from them lmao. A quick research will show that phrase is the translation of the Latin phrase “ suum cuique.” As well as the origins dating back to Shakespeare. Did you think the nazi’s created it when they stole it??

Sorry, I can't answer each and everyone...
    1) Thanks for being interested in German history!
    2) I never said it was "invented" by the Nazis.
    3) I'm German and we learn these things in history class, we even visited Buchenwald in grade 11.
    4) It may be a common phrase to all other nations, but what happened in Germany is part of global history, too. Many other phrases and things were abused by Nazi-Germany, too. Like the Indian Swastika, but it's still very commonly used in India. That doesn't mean, though, that Hindus don't know about the history of the Swastika in Germany.

All in all...that's why I put a question mark in there...it's everybody's own choice
But one should still know what it once was used for, so it doesnt happen again! That's also what we learn in German history - it never should happen again, and when we see things that might point in that direction (even a little bit), to try and make people aware of it. :3 Happy week everyone!

    Mimiru April 22, 2025 6:08 am

Oh by the way...you may not be able to find any connections, because, of course, the german translation of the phrase was used: "Jedem das Seine"

The thing is, it’s fine if you’re sharing a fact. But idk about “warning” someone to not use a phrase. The phrase does not belong to the nazi’s. It shouldn’t stop being used by everyone else, just cause one bad group of people misused the phrase. The nazi’s should be blamed for stealing the phrase and turning it into a bad meaning. Let everyone else use it like it was originally intended

Thank you for the information. I didn’t know it was somehow related to the Nazis—TIL.

But from what I’ve read, it’s only connected to the Nazis if you say ‘Jedem das Seine.’
For English speakers, ‘to each their own’ is a normal expression and common idiom. It doesn’t carry the same history or negative meaning.

    Hope this helps. Thanks again!

Bichen April 15, 2025 6:12 pm

Why the translation sucks now (/TДT)/

Bichen April 14, 2025 3:38 pm

Oh well, at some point I do understand why Ken feels that way… like someone ‘replaced’ his mom. But at the same time, I’m actually glad that at least it’s Tarou-san—he’s a good guy.

Okay, I’m gonna trauma dump here lol.
I said I can understand him to a certain extent because—well, my dad is actually gay, and he married my mom to cover it up. Turns out he had been cheating on her the whole time. My mom passed away from cancer, and after that, he shamelessly started bringing his so-called “best friend” over to our house almost every week. One day I caught them, and yeah… that’s how I found out.

I’m not disgusted by gay people at all, but situations like this honestly make me feel a bit uncomfortable. So yeah ( ̄∇ ̄")

    huehuehue April 14, 2025 5:55 pm

    sending hugs your way!

totally understandable that such a situation isnt easy to process especially as a child and on top of that with losing a parent.
Some people are so shamless it blows my mind. I hope you have good people surrounding you ♡

That’s so nice of you! Thank you for being kind ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

I’m in a much better place now, and of course, surrounded by good people. To be honest, because of the incident, I closed my heart and haven’t been very good with people in general—especially within queer groups—until I met someone wonderful who I now call my best friend. He’s gay and he opened my eyes and showed me that there are a lot of kind people out there I hadn’t connected with before. So thankful that I met him!

I haven’t really associated much with my dad and his scandalous lover. I don’t really know what’s happening with them. I just hope they’re still together, so they don’t bring the same misery I felt to anyone else.

Again, thanks for the hugs. Really appreciate it ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

Bichen April 12, 2025 11:02 pm

What a f up story.

But yeah, the parents were trash. I don’t really feel bad when they died.

Pity the girl.

Bichen April 11, 2025 11:21 pm

I keep on coming back to this masterpiece!

p/s: I love Giran’s peck too ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ
