╮(￣▽￣)╠Actually I've been on the opposite side of Seyoung's situation before.
We cleared out a room for a relative. They stayed with us for about 5-6 months. Didn't have them pay any bills or electricity. They shared and ate our food/otherwise bought their own. And at some point, I became just as bitter as Seyoung's ex friend.
In my situation though, I was helping babysit the relative's child (it was a family of 4 who moved in with us). The 2 kids were toddlers who refused to sleep at night so we would all be up at 2am trying to get them to sleep. Meanwhile the mother was already asleep without a care in the world. The toddlers lacked discipline and would throw objects at us intentionally if they didn't get their way (the mother did not stop them). So some of us constantly had bruises.
When they finally moved out, we didn't receive even a thank you. Wasn't expecting anything for helping them but feelings were hurt in the process of this situation for sure. Ironically, they also housed a relative later down the road and kicked the relatives out for "not helping out around the house."
I almost called them out on their bs because when they were living with us, they didn't clean the house, wash dishes, help cook, mow the lawn, or even look after THEIR OWN CHILDREN. So to go around and call others out for the same behavior was so foul.
Anyways Seyoung definitely wasn't in the wrong. It was merely 2 weeks and during that time, he seemed to be helping around the house and mindful.
Don't worry, in your case it is justified.

I moved away from these people, still contacting each other once in a while, but I stopped myself being a doormat.
Yes, they still owe me and I kept the records because it is too big amount to just brush off.
I never chased them to pay up and never give them interest since I am not a bank and not a loan shark. BUT, I am also not a freaking SAINT.
At least I stopped lending them money, took screenshot of the records and sent it to them.
One of the most ridiculous reason for them to borrow money from me was that they need to buy a present for their friend's son 1st birthday.
So they borrow $100 from me.

For us, our bills went from $100 to $200 in electricity and water bill every month. And I'd definitely be babysitting if both parents worked but no, the mom did not work. She just stayed home all day. My entire family was waiting on her like a princess it was insane. I've never been close to them the same way again nor have I helped people out without getting details.
