I am sure the reason will be revealed as the story continues but my guess would be given his rather awkward behavior around her, it might be something along the lines he might have thought she would have been happier living with a family that had both a "mom" and a "dad". ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
Right now we don't know much about his job but given the fact that he was covered in blood gives me the thought it is not an easy and in some ways a dangerous job and if it takes him away form his daughter for several days or weeks and or months at a time he might be thinking " what kind of a life is that for my daughter if I am always away all the time and she is alone with no one around?" (︶︿︶)＝凸
Granted there are the servants but from his perspective he might have been thinking having her with a family that would give her all the things he couldn't as he is a single dad without a wife that would be one factor that would lead him to giving her to that family.(⊙…⊙ )
I do believe he DOES love not only did he send money regularly if you observe his actions though he is rather clumsy he more acts like a father who doesn't know what is the right way to bring up and raise his kid, thus producing the awkwardness in his behavior.
Unfortunately unbeknownst him doing that lead to his daughter living a harsh life (╬￣皿￣)凸 but assuming of course my theory is correct I can't wait to see what he will do when it is found out she has been abused. ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
Which even if the mc TRIES to hid it, it is only going to be a matter of time before it is found after all child abuse is NOT something you can hide FOREVER in front of others as a child gets more comfortable they are going to slip up eventfully where the truth will then be revealed. Σ(っ°Д °;)っ
