Lmao, yes the "wives" can give their husband a green hat! I was reading Legendary Master's Wife novel on ExR website. In one of their translation notes they explained the origin of the term green hat... I was reminded of that story.

But one day, the fabric shop owner got impatient, because the husband hadn’t left the house for more than 3 months.
Some days later, the fabric shop owner saw the husband pass by his store, so he thought the husband had left the house for business again, thus he sneaked into the house to meet the wife, but before he did anything, the husband came back. However, the fabric shop owner managed to hide under the bed and avoid the calamity.
After that experience, the wife asked the shop owner to make a piece of green fabric and make a green hat for the husband. She gave it to the husband and said this hat represented her heart, it would protect his hair from all the dirt and hope he would always remember her through this hat.
The husband gratefully received the hat and wore it every time he left for business, but little did he know, the hat was to signal the fabric shop owner that the husband had left for business and he could come over.
