She's expected to die in about 6 years.
5 years passed, meaning she only has 1 year ahead of her.
And it's been half a year they don't see each other?
Does that make sense to you???

Ok, so answering the comments above:
Faust41s - I also see as them not seeing each other from the 4.5 years to the 5 years, when the timeskip ends. I am expecting them to see each other more on her "last remaining year" 'cause it's just sad... (/TДT)/
RAISON - Well, she did say she did not see him for the past 6 months, but I do agree with you that they probably at least communicate. Either way... can you imagine how said it is for both of them not being in the presence of one another for 6mo knowing she has a "terminal disease"? It's like you videocalling and calling your loved one who has 1.5 year to live due to cancer. Find ways to see each other for freaks sake! She get food from the mansion but not her husband? ヽ(TДT)ノ
GreenTea - I did not miss the line saying he can't be away from the territory for too long, and I agree that he shouldn't be away from his duties. It's just that as I see it, he has other ways to be physically present with her for short periods of time, mostly because they literally have a magician working for their Family House. So yeah... I'm not happy with the fact that she said that they haven't seen each other for so long considering she has an expectation of life that's just too short for their own good. Also, don't you think it's a bit out of character for him to not go see her at all for 6 whole months? I doubt he'd actually accept that. His personality so far did not give me the impression that he'd be okay being far from her knowing she's sick and may not survive. As far as I could see, he'd find ways to go see her from time to time, even if for short periods of time and if he needed to overwork the mage. LOL ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Of course you're all free to disagree... I'm just saying what I interpreted from the whole thing. ( ̄∇ ̄")

...and it's soooooo frustrating. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧

I re-read it tbh. LOL
Basically, he was led to believe that she is planning something like a mastermind villain, while she thinks he was faking his affection. And instead of them freaking sitting down and having a conversation like 2 adults, they are caught up in their own beliefs and looking for behaviors on the other to validade their dumb narrative.
Sooooo frustrating!!! ヽ(`Д´)ノ

I think it is quite the common practice in stories to make the characters not to speak what's on their minds.
I'm old, have read lots of mangas, maanwhas, etc, and it is everywhere. Could it be something cultural?
In my country, holding hands, speaking most of the time what's on your mind is pretty natural, and I particularly find annoying that one situation lasts thousand years because nobody wanted to speak what was the issue.
So... Speak dudes and dudettes! That's what we can learn today :D

In my country not speaking your mind to your partner or loved ones is regarded as lack of maturity. If you are not a teenager, than you should have enough emotional control and understanding to be able to communicate properly.
Of course, not everyone is like this, but those who can't properly express their feelings and thoughts normally have unhealthy relationships.
For stories, I personally see it as a laziness on the author part to think of different and creative ways to put challenges in the characters life. For someone who's mature enough to endure all of that ridicule and shame, give the throne, and not be affected by gossip.... why can't he just sit down with the woman he loves and talk things out? It seems out of character. He could do so with his parents when all of the things went down with his previous marriage. So why not talk it out with his woman?
I doesn't make sense to me... and after everything she went through, why is she not able to verbalize her feelings of unfairness and frustration towards his treatment? It's just weird...
Are you telling me that the 4 commanders of the King's Army KNOW that Abel is the King's Regas and left him WITHOUT PROTECTION while he's asleep knowing that A MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL IS IN THE BARRACKS so that Abel can WALK AROUND AT NIGHT to the King's barrack and NO ONE NOTICED HIM SCREAMING TO BE LET IN?!?!?!?!
Sorry. No. No F**KING WAY that's possible. Considering the personalities of the character's that would NEVER HAPPEN.
Ugh... such an absurd whole in the plot just so they can somehow separate Abel from the King.... tsc. I hate this. Such a good story having this huge mess up? Ugh...
Well... I'll continue reading it, though ahahahaha I reeeally wanna see that member of the council being obsessed with Abel LOL He'll go down a fall of his own making. I know it.
I promise the story is worth sticking around for, there are just little moments where you have to suspend your belief because it is again just a story. They can make unrealistic aspects occur to further the plot (even if it pisses us off lol.)
Ooh I'm sticking with this story!
This is the 2nd — huge! — plot hole I noticed?!
Yes.
Will I stop reading this story because of it?
Nope.
Ahaha This is too good to be dropped because of this. I'd need something bigger than all of the good parts of the story so far to make me drop it.
I have the memory of a goldfish, but if I remember correctly in the novel, one of Karas’ men was sent to Abel.
Also, they want to keep Abel hidden as much as possible, especially since one of the council elders was present. They need to distance themselves — as well as Karas’ close aides — because the council elders have a lot of spies.
Well, if that's the case, then how is Abel walking around the camp, making a fuss in front of Karas' tend, and being dragged away by a mere "tool" of a boy? Isn't it just weird?
