Aww, poor thing. Read it a little more slowly. She has always been female and mentions it quite a few times. Once you skip that ONE MAJOR detail, you miss most of the story.
I even read plotsplaining and other walls of text multiple times if needed so I can understand what's going on. If you skip something it could take away from the whole story. It just flies right over your head.
