What we know now are point of views from Violette, from her pained past to current development. Duke Vahan is a problematic man with a (likely) victim mentality, and Prince Claudia is easily swayed by presumptuous justice (but he's definitely changing for the better). That much can be concluded We do not know what are the point of views from Maryjun and her mother.
For all we know, Duke Vahan could have just told them that Violette was an estranged niece from another family that he has taken under his wing as his daughter. They may not even have known the true history and is treating Violette as a real daughter/sister just so she would not feel neglected.
My point is, hold your high horses and observe the story development. Please.
