I first really liked this, but then I was kind of upset at how the main character’s feelings hardened and brittled over age. It was realistic, I understood it — it would be extremely hard to wait for someone for so long. But maybe instead of standing his Santa up, he should have straightforwardly broken up with him (which I would have been sad about but respected, as he has the choice to be or not be in a relationship). He never has much active agency in the story — when that other guy breaks up with him, he seems like he is going to accept being sad and alone, rather than saying sorry to and trying to get back his Santa. (Granted, I’m just assuming, but based on his character and reaction after he broke up with the other guy and thought about Santa, I’d think I was right.) Also, he seemed to be a little too reliant on that Santa expressing his feelings rather than working on expressing his own (which he himself admits is selfish). Anyways...
