The rules are so fucking stupid. Why the fucking fuck duck should you have to marry someone once you’re an “adult”? What if you’re not straight, I bet my fucking foot that they would throw a goddamn tantrum if somebody wanted to, god forbid, marry who they loved. What if you were asexual, and just didn’t want to marry anybody?
“It’s not safe for a woman to be alone” okay, and whose fucking fault is that? Why the hell do I have to read about the fucking patriarchy in a goddamn manhwa? They’re not even going to do anything to change the system, so what’s the fucking point?

Reading your comment when I'm in a situation where I can't avoid marriage being an asexual...
Well... I care for my parents and my hands are tied on the issue because of that. Society doesn't look well on my folks or me if I refuse to marry. They will either speculate I have serious health issues or that my character is depraved. I don't particularly care about what they think about me but when my mom cries, I couldn't remain passive.

What ‘previous era’ are you even referring to? Because if you actually look at the tags, this manhwa is labeled as fantasy, not historical. If it were truly meant to reflect a specific historical period, maybe the ‘that’s how it was back then’ excuse would carry a little more weight—but that’s not the case. In fantasy, every element of the world—its laws, social systems, and values—is a conscious choice made by the author.
And while arranged marriages certainly did exist historically, women weren’t literally handed out as prizes in competitions. That’s not how marriage worked, especially among nobility. Historically, marriages were arranged for political alliances, economic strategy, or family status—not as a reward for winning a hunting contest. That scenario is more of a modern fantasy trope than anything rooted in real history.
This setup doesn’t accurately reflect any real-world culture or tradition—it’s a fabricated cliché that mimics the aesthetic of ‘the past’ without any real substance. And using ‘historical inspiration’ as a defense doesn’t work when what’s being portrayed was never historically accurate to begin with.
Why is nobody criticizing how creepy it is that the grandpa count married someone 20 or so years younger than him…it’s giving “the-orange-creep-who-is-currently-the-president-of-the-U.S” type shit
Because at that era it was normal doesn't mean it's acceptable but different times with different views
Girl that's totally normal during those times... There are literally men age 30's marrying minors
It was normal back then’ is weak af. Slavery, colonization, and public executions were also ‘normal.’ We don’t excuse harmful practices just because they were once common.
the person isn't excusing anything, i think they're just pointing out that it was, unfortunately, normal in those times, that’s not "weak" that’s context.. Acknowledging that fact isn’t the same as endorsing it. You can recognize how messed up something was without pretending history didn’t happen.
Wait where did the replies go
Oh nvm mggo was just glitching
It’s just that their phrasing kind of seemed like they were using history to justify shit, but if you say so. And I meant that their argument seemed weak.
I was under the impression she was 20+ when she married him, I saw no issues with a 18+ year old marrying an old man. If you meet after 18, it’s whatever, you’re both adults and can make your own decisions.
I understood it like the granpa just married the lady because of her business acumen to protect FL so that they would be able to interact more as grandpa's wife. But the lady really loved the grandpa. Plus it seems the translation was wonky but in return for protecting the FL for all her life, the lady asked granpa to sleep/hold her once which is why they got the kid
Why would an old man want someone barely out of their teens?
I have no idea why… maybe he wants a heir. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
20 year old and a 30-50 year old being together isn’t the same as 10 and 20 year old.
If he wanted a heir, he had 40 something years to make one.
A 20-year-old is barely entering adulthood, while a 50- or 60-year-old has lived an entire life. Don’t you think that power and experience gap creates an unequal relationship dynamic? Also, it would have to be a 10 year old and a 40 year old, because he is way older than her by at least 2 decades.
