I don't really know about "guides and espers" genre, like someone pls break it down to basics for me(づ￣ ³￣)づ
I’ll try to explain it bit by bit as someone who likes this genre. So in this universe there are civilians, espers, and guides. Espers and guides work in pairs why? Because Espers are those people with power to kill and Guides are those people who can calm down the Espers. From this story the concept is mostly similar to the ones I’ve read before like if the Esper’s energy depletes or goes into an imbalance they become irrational and might try to kill/destroy anything that breathes or move so that’s when Guides come into the picture. Their names says it all, guide! They help the Espers in check so they stay calm. I hope this helped lmao
I forgot to mention comparability levels like Espers and Guides have ranking from S-D rank I think? So they have to match that Esper’s rank to a Guide that has the same rank as them to have good compatibility
Exactly like the person before me wrote. I understood it, this way:
In the universe there are three types of ,,human’’: Espers, Guides, Regular people
Let’s exclude regular people, as they are irrelevant right now, but just for information as the name indicates they are civilians with no power, just regular everyday people.
Then there are Espers. Kinda like superhumans, or mutants or you can even think of them as Avengers. The have supernatural abilities that regular people and guides don’t have. They work in the name of humanity, they protect it with their powers. However this power comes with a price. It can corrupt their mind. If an Esper uses too much power/energy they will go berserk, and usually there is no coming back from there. They become feral, and they loose their humanity.
Here is where Guides come into the picture. They are the only ones who can channel this bad energy/power from the Esper. This act is called ,,guiding”. Kinda how you put water on the fire to put it out. They calm the Espers, and usually it involves physical contact. The more physical contact a Guide has with an Esper the more effective the guiding is. (Meaning they can go from holding hands to sex)
However there is another factor to how effective a guiding can be. There are power levels, like in video games, usually in stories from E to S. S is the strongest and E is the weakest. An E power level Guide cannot Guide an S power level Esper effectively, as their levels are way too big. Usually in stories the most effective is when Espers get guided by a Guide who has the same power level or stronger (ofc there are exceptions, for example int the story ,,B class Guide”)
But yeah, I think this is the summary of the guide verse in my understanding. Not every information may be correct so if someone has a different view please feel free to correct!

Yeah they do have A ranks S rank being the highest and D being the lowest there’s also an E rank if the authors include it. The expert rank would be A-S I think?
B classes are average they get the job done and I think OP meant the story “B class guide” you should definitely read it if you want to know more about espers and guides ^ ^!
