A lot of the yaoi rom coms paint gay romance and sex as this rosy affair that's almost like a shoujo manga. Though I think most of us readers know that it's not like that irl, it's nice to see a work like this that kinda attempts to show what it's like for ordinary people and especially the demographic we don't usually see represented in yaoi manga: them old and middle-aged dudes. I like that neither of them is portrayed as a "blushing bride" type of character. They're really just middle-aged men who do old man things and have old man habits. It's not glamorous it's not sexy and sometimes it's kinda gross what they do (like huffing stinky breaths like fools) but I can actually see that happening since it's two guys who are just so comfortable with each other.

Sums it up, really. Uke is spineless af and if there wasn't anyone to draw out any kind of real reactions from him through teasing and such, he'd probably be fine just existing with about as much personality as air at room temperature.
Good thing there's a sadistic narcissist who actually likes seeing him flustered and finds it worthwhile to draw him out of his shell. The timid pretty boy downstairs wouldn't have done the job.

Ridiculously absurd. What kind of message is the author trying to say? That it's ok to act out like a teenage girl at a professional workplace because sempai didn't notice you? That it's ok to jeopardize your team's work because of your own personal desire to get close to a work colleague? That it's ok to strike them physically over a perceived slight? And what's even more absurd is that the guy actually APOLOGIZED to her wtf lol he should have sent her ass to HR which is what that behavior deserves. This reads like something written by a teenage girl honestly and it's so so so bad. The author must have no understanding of what workplace etiquette is irl. Also, I've met people who stutter. People. Multiple. I'm almost certain they'd be embarrassed to be portrayed in this way- as this defeated, always so timid, hiding away and always afraid type of person. Most people are resilient and always find a way to rise up beyond their handicap. Yes I imagine they're insecure about it but goddamit they try to make it not awkward for people they interact with. Also, most people never point that shit out out of politeness so it's unrealistic that this kid has gone on living all the while hung up on getting embarrassed as a child over his stutter. Like come on people aren't that fragile ffs. This kid just has a perpetual victim aura like you wouldn't believe and he always uses his stutter as a defense which is absurd and insulting. When you meet someone like this, please have the kindness to tell them that it's not their disability that's the issue, it's their defeated victim attitude that makes them a pain. Society (adult, grown up people society, that is) doesn't have the energy to belittle you for your disability. It's insulting to put your guard up like you're anticipating that every person you interact with is out to emotionally hurt you or something.

It's easy to be put off by this just from the first chapter but if you keep reading you'll find that this manga has some heart despite how cliche it appears at first glance.

I first read this some millennia ago then came across it again here. Reading it the second time around it's still as funny and chaotic and waterworks-inducing. The scene where Hisui swears to the baby that, unlike his family, he won't abandon him, is the one scene I very vividly remember about this manga even several years later. To me it was as if he was giving himself a better childhood through this baby who was abandoned just like he was by promising to give the baby what he didn't have. Pretty sad and heart-rending stuff. I don't think it'll ever be marked as completed but tbh the story gets dragged on for longer than necessary after volume 1 so it's not like there's anything to feel bad about. To me they've basically gotten their happy ending. The main couple, I mean. Don't care much about teenage Haruhi.

Also, get yourself a man like Yu who loves honestly and earnestly but won't accept less than their due. The man's a saint among men for fighting his way through Hisui's layers of insecurities. That's how you know it's fiction lol

This is such a comfy and light-hearted manga to read. But kids don't go hunting for a glucose father now. It's naive to think anyone would just give give give and not expect something in exchange. Unless you're ready for that ofc. (▰˘◡˘▰)

lookinachu created a topic of Chika-chan to!

Really like the way the author depicted Chika's coming to terms with his feelings. It's a more authentic take than what you would usually see in other BL manga. I also love how Ryo doesn't take any bs and shoots down any of Chika's attempts to wriggle out of confronting their "situationship". He lets Chika know in no uncertain terms that he's serious about him, leaving him no room to doubt his intentions. I think that's a really mature (and healthy) way of "taking the lead" and is 1000x manlier than the typical trash seme that bulldozes their way into their love interest's life, bearing down on them until they give in.

I also really like the seme Ryo's mature character. It's refreshing to see this attractive and confident seme who's not afraid to be vulnerable when it matters. Despite knowing Chika's nature, he laid his feelings bare at great risk of getting his heart broken. We get to see him go through feelings of insecurity, frustration, and even hopelessness like a normal person would when they've put their cards on the table and let the other person have the upper hand. Showing a seme working through complicated feelings just as much as the uke really makes the romance much sweeter. This manga has surprisingly more depth than how it looks on the surface especially with its title being the way it is.

It's really awkward how the characters talked about how they plan to "resolve" the pain points in their relationship. Communication is important for a healthy relationship but the way the characters in this one did it feels so unnatural. It feels like the author is just forcing it so that we the audience know the issues are being addressed. There's a way to write that stuff in a way that real people can relate to and this manga missed the mark I think.
