Is the popularity of rape in Yaoi and romance manga a bad thing? If more manga was about loving and tender relationships, would it have a positive impact on how we feel and think in general?
A bad thing? Probably, but getting rid of rape in mangas won't change much. There's still more twisted themes in manga. Rape barely counts as dark.
Also, I will make the assumption that most of the people here can distinguish between reality and the manga world. Anyways, I personally believe that environment (family relationships, education, wealth, etc.) is more of a determining factor of mentality, and manga only serves to fulfill the desires of that mentality (so you could claim that manga strengthens negative thoughts).
I actually like rape in manga and novels. It's a way to live your fantasies (for me it's getting totally dominated and broken) in a safe way. Still, I don't like rape when it's used as a cheap plot device, like in many yaois. "The seme loved the uke so much, but due to a misunderstanding the uke didn't understand that, so he just had to do it and now the uke finally understands the semes feelings, but the seme is regretting everything!" That kind of plot is just annoying and ignores what rape actually does to a lot of people and in my opinion they could just disappear. Still there are many good stories (this is dependable) in my opinion those are stories like easy target , warehouse and (not a yaoi) hidden marriage. Those stories are the kind that I love and the kind that I believe shouldn't disappear, because while they are just stories, they can at the same time kind of educate us on these things
Now here's what you should know. There are tons of fictional works that depict rape scene. But what makes 'rape' bad in fictions is when writers romanticize it. You wanna write about rape? Go ahead, but be realistic. It is a crime, and the victims usually suffer, traumatized etc. Never romanticize it. If you think "it's okay to romanticize it since it's fiction," there's already something wrong with your head. I personally know a rape victim, so I truly understand the whole ordeal of recovering from such a traumatizing experience. Romanticizing a crime is bad. Period. At least Harada knows it I guess. Harada writes fucked up stories alright, but she never romanticizes those toxic relationships.
Any guys here who read BL? What are your thoughts on ships like Joongdok from ORV and Yoojin x Hyunjae from S-Classes that I raised? Do you like them?
Hi I've read both <3
For joongdok, for me it's so angsty but i love it sm its one of my top fav ships, the chemistry and dynamic is lit there you cant miss it. Even Uriel ships them still cant forget that art from bb-nim too. Also the way the author portrays their relationship is so complex like yjh regressed 1863 times just for kdj and all other stuff too
For Yoojin and Hyunjae, its mixed feelings i haven't finished S-class so i cant say much although Hyunjae def caught my eye ever since he first appeared
Thanks for sharing!! Yeah I totally agree with you on joongdok, you said pretty much voiced what's been on my mind...As for Hyunjae and Yoojin, their relationship feels a bit weird, like it's lacking something concrete/solid, their exchanges are always fleeting and always seem to revolve around business/work, so it feels like there's no solid chemistry between them. Thay's just how I feel anyway...
What else do you read besides ORV and S Class Hunters? Any recs? :)
Maybe Lord of mysteries? Its a novel and its very.. very long :D *cough* 1k+ chaps.. I haven't finished it myself but its very good imo, the amount of details it has and the world building is amazing.
And also The Northern Grand Duke's Hamster, they kinda look like kdj and yjh. I recommend checking the promotion manhwa to see if you like it or not ^^
The Events of Romeo's Household, its lit so good i need more people reading this
Oh I'm reading LOTM right now, currently at ch 300!!
As for Northern Duke and Hamster, do you mean the novel?
What's Events of romeo's household about? Is it comedy/drama of sorts?
Omygod your way ahead of me☠ i get so lazy when it comes to reading novels
Idk why but my comment got cut off :D
Yes i meant the novel ^^
For Romeo its better if i paste the summary here, its slightly based off the story romeo and juliet but its still very different in many ways, its comedy/drama and doesnt contain romance (it does abit but its a special case)
Romeo Montague, a boy thrown into the attic with disgust after an accident five years ago. Although the world knew him as a boy unable to move due to serious afflicted illness, he lived a happy and fruitful life as a hermit in the attic. Only his cousin, Benvolio, and the housekeeper, Miriam knows the truth.
But his peace breaks when Miriam's brother, Abram, enters the mansion.
"I'll get you out of this room on your own feet!"
"You don't need to make such promise."
Romeo begins to solve Abram's various troubles with a single determination to preserve peace in the attic. Meanwhile, an unexpected adversary appears in front of him half-heartedly.
Oooh sounds interesting, I'll definitely check it out, thanks!! >∇<
Yeah LOTM is quite long, I actually got stuck on ch.300 cause it gets dark and I prefer something more optimistic.... :P
Have you read Debut or Die? I's a novel too, and it has this "frenemies" dynamic between Moondae and Cheongryeo, I'm fangirling over it xD
Im planning to read it ! Maybe once exams are done I'll start reading it :D I've seen a few edits of it too and looked absolutely interesting ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
good luck with your exams!! yeah you totally should, i think the novel's been officially translated too
Thank you ! Im looking forward to read it
