I actually feel bad for Doyeon. I mean he’s being an asshole but everything he said in anger is in fact true. Can you imagine the very STRAIGHT man you’ve crushed on for years and was your first sexual awakening coupled with being a “familiar” constant in your life, who strictly had a type that you knew you could never measure up to so you silently accepted pining after him because this same guy never would have considered dating you, a man, let alone a person he didn’t wholly respect as he’s constantly treated you as as nothing more than a nuisance kid brother suddenly changes his entire life aspirations and romantic desires for a pretty boy twink nearly half his age. I mean if we simply made Yiyoung a young woman it’d make it more obvious how cliche of a situation it is, typical old man behavior vying for young pretty thang. Of course Doyeon isn’t owed Kang’s love but it has to seriously sting just how of all the types Kang could fall for it’d be the ONLY type of man that a typical straight man would even allow himself to consider if a woman wasn’t an available/option. Plus we have Kang’s early chapters where some of this is actually verbalized in introspection, by Kang acknowledging Yiyoung would realistically move on from dating a MUCH older man who is very much at a different point in his life than Yiyoung who has no experience whatsoever. I admittedly like this drama because it adds some realism even if the fantasy is Yiyoung + Kang are OTP forever. Don’t hate me but yeah I actually do feel bad for Doyeon it sucks, every gay boy knows this feeling of self anger because you’re not afforded the luxury of openly expressing your love to often times your straight best friend or straight object of desire out of fear of violence or rejection. I’m hoping Yiyoung realizes this and is sympathizes which I sure Kang hasn’t and likely won’t be able to because he would never have struggled with this personally.
