As much as I love that the plot is plotting, there is nothing compelling about our main character eventually beginning a romantic relationship as we know with his charge as we know will happen. Our MC is nothing but a political pawn and prisoner to the crown prince. He has no actually autonomy true in any of the political games he’s been forced onto the board to now defend a royal power that has no care for whether he lives or dies as long as he serves his purpose. Despite the prince being the younger, the power imbalance and worse given that the prince now cannot be certain who to trust and not trust, our MC may be compelled to fill in roles that a growing boy would require to properly be “well adjusted”. Maybe the author may be able to spin this in a way that will eventually evolve into love, but from my current guess we’ll get an obsession/ possession dynamic between the two more so than anything that one would consider a love story.
So while the author has previously written self respecting confident mutually equal relationships, here we the audience are suppose to accept that an independent, self assured kickass boxer will just end up with a piece of shit fuckboy because we just needed yet another romanticized toxic douche getting a “happy ending” instead of any sense of humbling because he’s drawn to be hot.
One of those enemies to lovers plot that truly make zero sense as to why they would end up together. The ML is just homophobic and toxic for literally no reason decides to blame MC for something he had absolutely nothing to do with plus tarnish the reputation of the only person who was genuinely nice to him. And MC instead of saying fuck this I don’t want anything to do with this piece of shit and now forcibly interacting with this guy at his own detriment, because BL logic. Fucking stupid. The ML is also a fuckboy who likes to play mind games as shown in the Raws. Aren’t Korean authors exhausted by constantly churning out toxic narratives as their bread and butter.
True. I don't get it why uke is so determined to do the group project, while seme literally told him to hop on free ride. And then he got exhausted because the group project that he insisted on working was so hard to do. Why would he even work with someone who deliberately tarnished his name? When he was just trying to help
I’m stating an opinion based on the factual way this and many other BL Korean stories like it are written. And people are pressed about it if you bring up this is the standard not the exception. Pick a random BL this point, 8 out of 10 will be some stupid romanticized toxic trait but make it “sexy”, have this be directed at a female protagonist and it’s readers would be in arms, but since it’s gay so who cares. It’s such a deeply warped mindset and it the dominating opinion so any dissent is “wrong”. This plot doesn’t make sense.
So I peeked into some korean spoiler comments. Spoiler :
It said, they kept sleeping together (being fuck buddy). I was like (???) Seriously? Isn't this guy so homophobic he even deliberately tarnished uke name because he didn't like him because he is gay.
Ok btw, they became fuck buddy. Uke got so confused with seme. So uke confessed his feelings, and seme, ugh no. I don't like you. Let's stop sleeping with each other.
Uke then heart broken, start new relationship with someone else. Then seme was like, uh oh no I got jealous. I like uke tho. Please come back. Wtf
This is literally my point. It’s so badly written. If you want smut and I love smut then go all in make it as ridiculous as you want with the simple task of a barely there plot. But not this wishy washy nonsense of I want my cake and eat it too of “ this is such a good plot because the drawing is nice” not an actually well conceived narrative. The BL “Can’t think Straight” is highly popular on here and has a similar enemies to lovers one gay one homophobe dynamic and it’s done in a way while not remotely realistic, the uke of the plot genuinely says fuck off at least and isn’t the one to confess because what makes sense of the victim of homophobic harassment “falling in love” despite their treatment? It’s the wear them
down proximity as roommates, not great but you can make the reach. I like it but I don’t love the setup, here it’s glaringly obvious this setup doesn’t work to make any sense, they simply don’t have to interact with each other if they decide not to.
I just don’t understand how MC’s royalty but a duke who is a lesser aristocrat can forcibly imprint on the royal prince and have his way with him without repercussions? Couldn’t he just be killed or made an example of going beyond his station? Why even have the MC be a prince of he doesn’t wield any useful power? Other than his occupation and appearance meet a trope and author probably just liked.
My theory is that the Duke, being the regent for some years (implicitly explained), have more political power than the prince. And forceful imprinting him would probably be put under the rug by the majority of the Nobles (because their interest is not being damaged). But it's still too early to say whether the author have some plot or this is just smut ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Not if the said Duke has military power or more sway in the political affairs which it looks like. The way the Duke conducts himself, he isn't affraid of any repurcussions. And I wonder how killing tge Duke could affect the Prince now that the Prince has imprinted the Duke. Duke honestly feels like one of those scumbag alphas who has multiple partners just bc he can. He probably forcefully made many omegas imprint on him one sidedly so he can reap benefits off them.
Mostly Dukes are more powerful than crown they hold large area and military, political powers that's why prince and kings are mostly stupid and powerless against dukes has no choice but to be befriend with them, crown play symbol of faith believing among people while Duke work behind. But who knows how author wanna make it in this story.
I just do not understand this plot. Are we suppose to collectively gaslight ourselves into forgetting how abusive the ML has been and that he’s utterly an asshole but yes he’s deserving of the MC simply because he’s the love interest? I get that MC has been in fact annoying and pushy, but why not write a clear concise rejection, rather than this dynamic of let’s torture him because it’s funny. This is the same bullshit energy that is the dynamic of Ashita wa Docchi Da! that is so beloved among this community it’s no surprise an author saw the romanticized bs that is Kirara and Ken’s relationship and plots similar to its dynamic and ran with just an extreme for laughs. Abusive relationships are not funny and it truly baffles me this is entertaining to people, it’s just legitimizes them as normal.
Not be mean or anything cause I get what your saying but this story isn’t meant to be taken seriously and I don’t think that one author is trying to normalize it. Also it says in the tags that it’s a toxic relationship so if it’s not your cup of tea you don’t have to read it. This dynamic might not be ideal but I believe the reason why so many stay and like it it’s cause it’s different you don’t see this dynamic everywhere. Plus this story is a genre meant for a specific audience. I’m just saying don’t yuck someone else’s yum. I mean why shit on a story that is gore and horror or a stalker psychological story. It would be dumb to complain about a how scary one webtoon is and question why a readers likes it when it’s just doing it’s job. I could say more but I won’t. Anyway don’t rock you brain too much it’s fine not to enjoy it just wanted to give another pov. :)
It’s the useless slut straight Top x emotionally scarred caregiver Bottom trope. There’s a couple of them that can kind of make it make sense why the two would get together but this one makes just so little sense for it. It’s a trope that’s annoyingly egregious because why would someone be this much of a pushover fully knowing it’s in their worst interests to get involved with a man who’s only currency is their dick can get hard but is otherwise a complete bum.
So we have perfectly logical MC proceed to be raped by the love interest because he’s acting “aloof” and the MC acknowledges this occurrence and just takes this in stride…. I know this is just a dumb plot but make up your mind is he dumb or plot dumb….
