The problem is many people expect it to be the "despite many hardship they are still able to be kind" trope.
Though, it MIGHT be true for some but it's highly idealistic and gives the vibes of toxic positivity mindset that older generations have that invalidates hardship and the right to feel pain. Specially in this scenario no healing/counseling nor any therapy session was ever made so ofcourse he's just going to get worse
Now, I'm not saying what he did was right, his past shouldn't justify his actions but it's still understandable why he did it, he's a very flawed character and people just expect him to be perfect
It's like complaining why a villain isn't saving people, it wasn't their role in the first place
