She definitely manipulated him, but to expect it would be to the point of obsession, idk. Its not like she spent a lot of time with him or was constantly gushing over him, he's probably traumatized from the other stuff he went to, and it morphed into something bad.
I disagree. Being kind to and supporting someone isn’t an invitation for that person to obsess over you. Gratitude sure, but obsession? No Toko
There’s a difference between pure, genuine kindness and wanting him to rely on her and for him to do her bidding when she needs him to. Sure, there were some moments where she was genuine with her care towards him, but her main objective was for him to swear absolute loyalty towards her because she was “his savior.” I’m not saying she was wrong, she’s literally just trying to survive this hell hole so I heavily don’t blame her — I would probably do the same if it meant safety and security. But honestly, I can’t blame Eclis either for falling for her especially since she gave him the recognition and kindness he needed when he was treated like a slave, a subhuman, before she came along. So his idolization and infatuation with her makes sense.

I mean she was never even really his savior, she was just his kind slave-owner. I like Penelope because I think she is a morally grey protagonist, if not directly a bad person. I think this is compelling, but some fans just think she is right all of the time just because she is the protagonist. If she was a good person, she would have freed other slaves too. However, she bought Eckles because she wanted to control him. He also didn't lost his mind and become obsessed with her through any fault of his own, or even penelope's (though manipulation, with obsession being the desired result if not this ill-wrought, makes his actions at least partially Penelope's fault) -- it's yvonne's. Even penelope noticed that he was being magically manipulated by yvonne, which with his high love score for penelope, just ended up with his motivations for doing what yvonne wanted being perverse and motivated by his obsession with penelope.
It's not fully her fault that he has a twisted personality, you know? Plus Leila didn't manipulate him, he couldn't care less about her he only brought her because penne was otherwise unattainable given her princess status.
Honestly, isn't it kinda Penelope's fault that "Eclis" is obsessed with her, she made him this way and he's also being manipulated by yvn.
Of course, I'm not tryna bash my girl, I love her, she's my favorite villainess and fl ( ̄∇ ̄")
