Serious question - but maybe because it's been too long since I read the first few chapters... But shouldn't the emperor still recognize that the woman he is looking for and the general is the same person? He met her and saw her enter the ghost thing place (I forgot it's name) when she was younger? I don't think she had that face changing skill before that. So she wouldn't have been able to transform.
