I like that the author did not suddenly make them a happy little family after everything that all of them have been through. I am enjoying the awkward phase in the relationship where nothing is sorted out or certain. This will make it more enjoyable when everything is perfect in the end.
I think it would be a disservice to both the FL and her son to just gloss over how difficult building a relationship is or fixing a relationship that has been broken. Although FL is trying very hard to make up for all the years of neglect, it must have been painful for the son no matter what the reason. I am here for the angst and I will cherish the agonizing journey to a better relationship with them.
