I know Japanese, so I've read it already but you're wrong. This is a sequel and it takes place after the kiss that was shown in the prequel. Their relationship hasn't progressed since then and they just keep going around in circles which is why you probably think it takes place before the kiss. But their relationship will progress more in the later chapters.
