I watch a lot of Kdramas and Korean managas and OMG the bullying is so bad. Is it really that bad in Korea?! I guess it kind of makes sense in a very beauty-centric society but seriously its so bad. It needs to change. The manga is so good tho!! I will say I didn't love the first few chapters and I stopped reading it until I saw all the good comments.
The gay community is shitty (referring mostly to the American one - it's the most prominent one after all). It's horrible. They barely acknowledge bisexual people, they don't know their own group and they are usually the most loud voices of trans-phobic comments. They are sexist, misogynists, racists, trans-phobic, and often times elitist. They often operates as cliques and have an incredulous us vs. them mentality when it comes to members of their own.
All of this I have gleaned from several years of gay media. It's sad because you'd think that banding together to face their problems would be the most obvious solution but no. They don't like drag queens, they don't like transvestites, they think bisexuals are just straight people experimenting, their media often shows they don't like women.
Of course every city is different, but the ones in the major ones were gay and proud and racist back when it was cool to be racist. They wouldn't let other groups into their clubs so they had to form their own.
I guess I put them on a pedestal. But in the end they're humans. And humans are flawed and/or assholes. And gay media is filled with mostly white people. And what do white people do best; humans do best - divide and conquer. Prejudice, stereotypes, and flawed judgement.
This is the manga that showed me exactly what I had been seeing but refused to believe all these years.
And lets not forget the straight guy in one of the comments who is agreeing that Mei should never have been the seme. He supports his argument by saying that he is very straight but is not at all attracted to girls. Lmao!!!! OMG so funny!
Wow... okay let me stop you here. I live in one of top 5 most populous cities in the USA. I am in the asexual spectrum. The only ignorant ones that I have met here are straight. Sure, there is micro aggression owing to race, but people in the LGBTQ community are usually willing to listen. Also, Kylie Jenner. There is definitely transphobia across the U.S, but never felt that within the gay community in my city. It’s a you do you kinda thing. I just don’t agree with the fact that you generalizing everything over what I hope is just one bad experience. Philadelphia and NYC (as far as I know ) are like this. I go to the gay club with my trans friend, and his boyfriend occasionally. It is accepting as far as I have seen.

Hmm. Well you have firsthand experience. I have been sitting on this rant for 3 years now. And maybe the negative is just easy to see but all I said is what I saw from media, specifically gay media.

Yeah, I think Bis (my best friend is one) and Asexuals (I am one) do face a lot of backlash from the LGBTQ+ community, especially when people tend to actively deny the orientation, state that we are confused, have extremely high/low sex drive, and don’t understand what we want. So, you know LGBTQA - the A stands for ally, but also asexual. Asexuals are people who feel no sexual attraction towards anyone, and only feel the emotional connections. You know how we have the bisexual-straight spectrum, and pansexual - straight spectrum etc.., where people have different levels of affinity ? Similarly, think of asexuality as a branching spectrum, that goes towards straight, bisexual etc. The level of sexual attraction may from none to some. The ‘label’ used for the middle ground is demisexual, when people rarely feel any sexual attraction, but it might happen sometime. The important thing to note here is to segregate the physical and psychological reaction. You get what I mean? Let me know if you’ve any questions, I’m more than happy to answer. Yes I do understand the spectrum and thanks for taking the time to explain it. However, I've always thought the spectrum started with straight and ended with asexual. That's why I was confused as to how someone can be straight and/or asexual.

If he is straight and is not at all attracted to girls, then he is asexual. In order to be in the spectrum, doesn't there have to a possibility that the other side of the spectrum is also true for him.

Well attraction can be emotional or sexual, you know. But, I see what you mean ! I just read the comment from Amorin, and based on the context it was an illogical argument for Mei being uke. In regards to them being straight as they come with no attraction - it could just mean that they don’t know about the asexuality label? Anyway, back to Mei. I mean realistically, I do know that a few of my gay friends (even trans gay men) are somewhat touchy feely, when they are considered to have feminine traits (you know people trying to fit them in the Adam and Eve bubble). However, some of them just don’t care, and at least acc. to my best friend, switches are pretty common in the community. Keeping non fiction aside, this is a fictitious scenario, and this is not the first time I’ve seen the same cross-dress. That is so weird!!
There was this chapter where Hato was mad that he was being treated like a woman. I was a bit offended. Not all women are useless and helpless you know, just like not all men are capable and responsible. But I guess it might have been a cultural thing. Maybe men in Japan don't tell their wives what they're doing and they just spring it on them? I don't know. I just felt a bit offended but I love the story though!
