OK, so I just finished reading the novel and WOW. I want to read it again. After all the bullying Kang Jun goes through, it finally ends, but only after he gets into a fight with a guy who used to be part of Han Junwoo’s group. (He couldve ended it earlier, but he didn’t. It was a matter of pride and a big fat “fuck you” to Yohan.)
Anyway, the guy gets frustrated mid-fight, starts insulting Jun, and begins beating him up. Do y’all remember the scene where Yohan beat the crap out of Han Junwoo, even though the first person who got hit was supposed to lose? Well, Yohan had told Jun how he managed to win that fight. So Jun has a flashback, remembers Yohan’s strategy, and pulls the same move because he’s too weak to win otherwise.
Jun ends up winning but faints afterward and is taken to the hospital. He realizes that since he woke up in a hospital, that means his parents were contacted (sigh), which kind of ruins his achievement. Not only does he get labeled a “mama’s boy,” but now his victory feels a little pointless.
Later, Jun finds Yohan sleeping on the couch in his hospital room. (I don’t remember this scene too well.) I think Yohan asks if they can be friends again and this time, Jun agrees. Fast forward, Jun is back to school where people call him “mama’s boy,” but the bullying has eased up a lot. Why? Because Yohan’s by his side again.
Oh, and remember Jaehyun? (Im sorry, this is if you read the spoilers in the forum) The guy from America who used to quietly help Jun during the bullying? He never made it obvious because he had been bullied himself before and didn’t want to get involved, especially with Yohan around (bro know that Yohan was jealous because he was hanging out with jun)
After making up with Yohan, Jun decides Yohan is trash and maybe he should change his love interest to Jaehyun instead. But it doesn’t work. Jun realizes he only sees Jaehyun as more of a brother figure and just can’t fall in love with him.
There were scenes where Jun tried to get Jaehyun’s attention, like getting his number from the teacher so he could ask about school while pretending to be in the hospital (he never actually went). But Jaehyun ended up ghosting him.
Meanwhile, YOHAN was blowing up his phone with messages, like calm down, idiot.
Whenever Jun came back to school from his so-called “hospital visits,” he would run into Minho (I think?) skipping class in some empty room or the bathroom. The first time, Jun told Minho that all his friends were talking trash about him. The second time, Minho decides to get revenge on Yohan with a stupid plan: Jun would confess to Yohan, Minho would record it secretly, then jump out and tell Yohan he’d been pranked, and the video would spread, exposing Yohan as gay.
Jun hesitated but agreed, even though he knew it was dumb. Somewhere around this time, Minho tells Jun that Yohan had actually asked for his name in their first year (that cafeteria scene where Yohan was staring at him), but Minho thought he meant Junwoo. Later, Minho got beat up when Yohan realized he gave him the wrong name.
Okay, not sure if this happened before or after the whole Minho prank thing, but here it is: Jun wants to talk to Jaehyun to thank him for what he’d done. Jaehyun tells him about the bullying and somewhere jun calls Jaehyun handsome, to which Jaehyun replies, “Someone with your face shouldn’t say that, people will misunderstand.” (HE WAS BLUSHING.)
Then Jaehyun says that the way he treated Junwoo was different from how he treats Jun, like, he never liked Junwoo and was just tolerating him, but with Jun, there was affection. Jun is surprised by how observant Jaehyun is and realises that yoohans hatred toward Junwoo might have stemmed from jealousy, kind of like the same feelings he had toward Taesan.
Some stuff happens, Jun leaves the art room. Later, there’s a scene where Jun and Yohan are eating ice cream in Jun’s room. Jun casually asks if Yohan liked Junwoo, and Yohan says no. Jun follows up by asking why Yohan hates him so much, pointing out that it can’t just be because Junwoo’s gay, considering Yohan is gay himself. Yohan gets flustered and starts ranting about how dirty, promiscuous, and disgusting Junwoo is. Jun eventually lets it go.
Anyway, Jun’s parents return home and his mom tells him they’ve found a counselor because his grades have tanked. She also says he’s going to join competitions. Then she casually mentions that she got the counselor’s number from the woman next door, Yohan’s mom. Jun is embarrassed, especially because the last time he visited, he was rude and arrogant (you know, that scene where Yohan sa'd him(considering u read the spoilers mentioned in this forum)).
His mom says she’s going over to thank her, and Jun insists on coming too. They visit Yohan’s house. Jun apologizes, but Yohan’s mom doesn’t even know why he’s apologizing. She starts praising Jun for his looks, grades, and manners. Jun’s mom beams with pride and starts complimenting Yohan’s mom back. Yohan’s mom says raising kids is exhausting and brings up Go Rosa—the youngest and only daughter—saying she’s very difficult. Jun’s mom says Jun is independent, and Yohan’s mom responds that she wishes her second son (Yohan) was like that because he’s extremely clingy.
Jun mentally calls her a liar and walks into the living room. He sees a photo of middle-school Yohan and thinks they probably put it up now to show he’s not being ignored at home. Jun excuses himself to the bathroom to splash his face. When he comes out, he runs into Go Rosa.
Rosa is confused and asks why he’s there. Jun explains her mom helped him with something. Rosa calls him an idiot for coming back to the house after what happened and says their family doesn’t hate Yohan because he’s gay. Jun is confused. Rosa tells him that Yohan is actually the most loved child in the house. He doesn’t eat dinner with the family simply because he chooses not to. (There’s a funny moment where Jun wonders how Yohan even knows how to heat up food or use the dishwasher, and Rosa just stares at him like jeez.) She says Yohan is an attention seeker and always exaggerates. She also brags that she has a higher IQ than him, and he’s insecure about it. Jun then mentions that there are no photos of Yohan in the house, but Rosa insists there are. So they go downstairs to a cabinet full of photos. Jun opens his eyes and sees Yohan in the pictures, standing out with his poses. Rosa says again that Yohan’s an attention seeker. Totally bamboozled, Jun tells Rosa to tell her mom he left because of “something,” then dips. I'll come back with more spoilers (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Can someone explain the relationship between the producer and Jiho? I was reading the sequel, but I don’t want to read this one. Did he like Jiho? Does this story take place before the sequel?
Nvm I realised this takes place in home cooking season 2 and the sequel takes place in homecooking season 3
