i'm pretty sure it was because he was with the blonde guy and the leader old guy didn't like them together so he sent a hit on him
basically he was doing dirty work for the old leader and drug dealing which was banned in their yakuza group, so because he 'knew to much' the leader had him killed so he didn't say anything about it. Also he was running away with that kid that he was looking after so i think that was one of the reasons as well
