I know maxi has a lot of insecurities but when Riftan said "I would rather die then let that happen" I'm pretty sure he meant it in a "I would rather die before I let you get hurt" not in a "I would rather die then take you on this mission" kinda way. I feel like the bottom line is kinda the same thing and there was a lot of heated emotions this chapter but even though he's being pretty hostile about it I think he's just mostly concerned for her
