The way the author portrays segregation isn't really realistic as someone of colour who happend to go through similar situations...1st of all the staff or coworkers would be really nice with you and no, no one goes around saying this is is a " white hospital" espacially the white ppl...the way you feel racism is when you give great results but your chief choses to promote ur white college, or u do very well compared to other ppl but get the same grade...Racism is really discret, ppl wlil laugh with u, smile at you, treat u nicely but when it matters (promotions, grades, salary) u ll be ignored and it will be givin to someone else...
i don’t think all his coworkers will be nice to him from the start. it literally depends on the coworkers themselves but they could be rude and racist from the start. the white hospital saying is a little weird but i feel like what he means is that it’s a predominantly white doctor hospital meaning he could very well face heavy discrimination as a new doctor from korea. racism CAN be discrete but it can also be very outright. i don’t have a doubt in my mind that in one of these chapters he may be called a slur or someone says something completely offensive by either a doctor or a patient. and not to mention idk how far back in the past he is but racism only gets worse the further in the past u travel so it may be even worse?
it is true that racisim can be discrete and CAN be outright, what I ment to say is that in places where workers have a certain level of education( hospitals, major law firms, engeneering colmpanys....ect)people are smart or smarter than the avarage person so their racism tends to be smarter too. I didn't mean that people would wolcome him with open arms in reel life, but that they would'nt be rude, (they may hate him or think less of him on the inside but they won't show it ). The racist people here will try to find creative ways to aply their bigotry (sabotaging his's work, stealing credits for his work, not giving promotion) and they are smart enough to know that racism is bad so they'll never show it and they'll always find excuses to justify what they did.
Racism is discreet in Europe. In the whole America, North, Middle and South, Racism is pretty obvious ESPECIALLY involving Rich ppl, unfortunately.
