so I've commented a few times on how I enjoy Takamada's 180 into full simp but I think it's important to promote and encourage the discourse going on in the comments of this comic.
To be frank, this comic started out in a very dark and triggering place with graphic depictions of actual rape, with the artist going out of the way to make it clear that Yu does NOT want to be part of Takamada's sexual escapades. Now Takamada has realized he's in love with Yu, and Yu is taking advantage of this by asserting dominance over his assailant that shifts their power dynamic in his favour.
This DOES NOT excuse what Takamada has done. We've already seen Yu placing misguided trust in him only to be disappointed, and for Takamada to then not want to live up to that disappointment in the future. We're seeing through their interactions how one character, Takamada, is able to change BUT the characters haven't really had a conversation that lays out exactly how fucked up and traumatic their initial encounters were, and Yu hasn't really had a chance to really confront within himself (and Takamada, if he insists on maintaining contact with him) the deep levels trauma that he's experienced.
Honestly speaking, as someone who does enjoy the story, this isn't a good depiction of how someone deals with being raped. It's a bit better than other BL that involve rape in the sense that it doesn't sugar coat what is happening or try to claim it as some fucked up form of love (as Takamada changes dramatically when he realizes he's in love), but it doesn't explore the feelings of the victim in a way that's satisfying and I do acknowledge the criticisms that it's insulting for the victim to end up with their assailant.
Unfortunately, based off of another work bov has done, I don't think we're going to get closure for Yu in a way that's narratively satisfying. He's experienced quite possibly the worst thing a human being can experience multiple times at this point, yet we don't see him dealing with PTSD or anything tangibly related to what actual victims of assault go through, and I think that's because the artist simply doesn't care to explore that dynamic. I think, unfortunately, they think rape is sexy and would rather gloss over how the other person in the situation would feel.
I do like how their relationship has changed, but I don't think people should continue reading this story if they expect much in the way of character growth for the victim, or a confrontation on what he's gone through that's as in-depth as the actions he was forced to experience.
Yeah, I agree. Also, the sudden change of Takamada's personality just felt really unnatural.
I sometimes think that the author is incapable of writing a love/romantic relationship, considering their other work and how this manga started. Then suddenly, Takamada's personality changed quickly. That's why I think they were maybe guided by an editor because I think the author's intent was to make Takamada unapologetic and unsympathetic, but who wants that kind of story?
one small detail that makes me wanna cry is how at the epilogue Hiyomori's wrists are thicker
our boy is getting taken care of
