yaoi in general I hate myself for getting into the genre. Like some are ok and interesting, but istg sometimes I feel like I'm reading shoujo manga tropes shoved on two guys sometimes.

Ummm..... its definitely a backhanded comment - I've been told that loads of times; I think sometimes people mean it in a "omg you're so independent!!! No partner can hold u down!!!!"
