Kinda dumb how some people drop this just because the tl said "gay" I mean of course they used the word but it's not what you say at times. It's what you mean when you say it. Calm all your immature butt hurt ass down. The author using the word "gay" wasnt directed to the lgbtq+ community so in that word,,, t'was a joke, calm thyself. And if you wanna write me a whole paragraph about how you were bullied with that word then I am sorry about that, BUT they had a different meaning when they used it against you. Of course its wrong, very wrong. But you should have enough common sense to know how much our generation changes that even a word that looks hostile can have different meanings. Thank you for your time reading this U-U

I understand what you're saying but it's kinda obvious here that the translator used the word "gay" as a synonym for "bad" or "tacky".
They're saying they're not using a particular phrase because they find it "gay". Which puts the term "gay" in a negative context.
Regardless of whether the translator intended for the word to relate to the LGBTQ community or not, they're reinforcing the image that "Gay=Bad".
This image is a subliminal message that will influence younger and more impressionable readers who will see "Gay" as something negative.
This adds to stereotypes and negative branding around the lgbt community. And can leads to homophobia.
Phrases like this may seem harmless to you, and you may think people are overreacting, but as someone who has seen how "it's gay" jokes can really mess up a person and their confidence and spread homophobia, I'm telling you that this isn't good.
And as a member of the lgbt community, seeing a phrase like this oon a webtoon I like is really upsetting.
