It seems the author is writing on the fly rather than having a clear plan for the unfolding narrative. For instance, consider Heesung and Potato's storyline; it appears tacked on to add pressure to the main characters without contributing much else. They lack depth and could be substituted with similar characters without changing the outcome. It begs the question: does the author have a grand plan at all? This level of writing is truly disappointing.
